Senior Backend Engineer (Elixir)

Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services primarily using Elixir to support cloud-based applications and user-facing features.

• Build scalable, high-performance, and reliable backend systems while contributing to architectural decisions and technical improvements.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design solutions, and deliver new features efficiently.

• Participate in code reviews, share technical knowledge, and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on quality.

• Improve the performance, reliability, and responsiveness of cloud services through continuous optimization and monitoring.

• Implement security, authentication, and data protection best practices across backend systems.

• Support production operations by troubleshooting issues, improving service reliability, and taking ownership of deployed systems.

• Develop and maintain services related to authentication, identity management, subscriptions, and payment workflows.

• Stay current with backend technologies and industry best practices while helping the team improve engineering processes.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.

• Proven experience building and maintaining production applications using Elixir.

• Experience with TypeScript and familiarity with modern software development practices.

• Basic system administration knowledge and experience working with production environments.

• Strong understanding of Git and GitHub workflows.

• Experience developing or maintaining authentication, identity management, payment, billing, or subscription systems is highly valuable.

• Experience operating production services, debugging live issues, and maintaining reliable systems at scale.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams and communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken.

• Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

• Comfortable working with teammates across time zones, with regular availability overlapping with Central European Time (CET) collaboration hours.

• Nice-to-have experience with NestJS, Terraform, Grafana, Python, frontend development, observability tools, incident response, or open-source projects.
