This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Elixir) based in Canada.

Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services primarily using Elixir to support cloud-based applications and user-facing features.
- Build scalable, high-performance, and reliable backend systems while contributing to architectural decisions and technical improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design solutions, and deliver new features efficiently.
- Participate in code reviews, share technical knowledge, and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on quality.
- Improve the performance, reliability, and responsiveness of cloud services through continuous optimization and monitoring.
- Implement security, authentication, and data protection best practices across backend systems.
- Support production operations by troubleshooting issues, improving service reliability, and taking ownership of deployed systems.
- Develop and maintain services related to authentication, identity management, subscriptions, and payment workflows.
- Stay current with backend technologies and industry best practices while helping the team improve engineering processes.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Proven experience building and maintaining production applications using Elixir.
- Experience with TypeScript and familiarity with modern software development practices.
- Basic system administration knowledge and experience working with production environments.
- Strong understanding of Git and GitHub workflows.
- Experience developing or maintaining authentication, identity management, payment, billing, or subscription systems is highly valuable.
- Experience operating production services, debugging live issues, and maintaining reliable systems at scale.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams and communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Comfortable working with teammates across time zones, with regular availability overlapping with Central European Time (CET) collaboration hours.
- Nice-to-have experience with NestJS, Terraform, Grafana, Python, frontend development, observability tools, incident response, or open-source projects.
