Accountabilities: The Backend Engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend solutions that enable AI agent capabilities while ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing, shipping, and maintaining features and improvements for AI agent observability and interactions across backend platforms and AI infrastructure.

• Designing and implementing scalable backend services, APIs, and related application logic with a focus on reliability and maintainability.

• Building and improving REST and GraphQL APIs while ensuring clear contracts, backward compatibility, and strong engineering practices.

• Collaborating with product managers, UX specialists, frontend engineers, backend engineers, and AI specialists to define requirements and deliver high-quality product enhancements.

• Improving automated testing practices, including unit and integration testing, to strengthen reliability and development workflows.

• Contributing to architectural patterns for AI agent interactions and how AI-driven capabilities integrate across complex software platforms.

• Sharing technical standards, best practices, and learnings to support responsible AI adoption and engineering excellence.

• Participating in production support activities, including on-call rotations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and improvements to system observability and resilience.

• Writing technical documentation, proposals, and maintaining clear communication within a remote, asynchronous environment.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings strong backend engineering experience, expertise in Ruby-based applications, and an interest in AI-driven software development. Required qualifications include:

• Experience building and maintaining production applications using Ruby on Rails, including background jobs, APIs, and data modeling.

• Strong understanding of backend development principles, scalable system design, and software architecture.

• Experience designing, extending, and maintaining REST and/or GraphQL APIs with attention to scalability and maintainability.

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including query optimization and data modeling.

• Practical experience using AI tools in daily engineering workflows, with experience building AI-powered features or integrations considered an asset.

• Ability to work effectively across a mature codebase and collaborate with distributed, cross-functional engineering teams.

• Familiarity with Python backends and/or frontend technologies such as Vue is a plus.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to write technical documentation and collaborate effectively in an async-first environment.

• Ability to learn new technologies, adapt to changing priorities, and apply transferable technical skills across domains.
