The targeted hourly rate range is $46.00 per hour to $58.00 per hour. Final offer will be determined based on experience, education, training/certifications and specialized skills.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for partnering with business leaders to define reporting and analytics requirements, document trusted business definitions, validate analytical outputs, and ensure enterprise reporting delivers accurate, actionable insights. The position will play a critical role in the Analytics reboot initiative by helping establish a governed enterprise data dictionary, business glossary, KPI catalog, and trusted reporting framework.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills, business acumen, data governance experience, and working knowledge of SQL and Power BI. While the role must be technically proficient, its primary focus is understanding the business, validating data, managing requirements, and ensuring analytics solutions accurately reflect business intent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Business Requirements and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partners closely with business leaders, subject matter experts, and process owners to understand operational workflows, reporting needs, business objectives, and decision-making processes.
  • Facilitates requirements-gathering workshops and discovery sessions.
  • Translates business needs into clearly documented functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
  • Identifies conflicting definitions, assumptions, reporting expectations and drive alignment among stakeholders.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and internal or third-party technical delivery teams.
  • Maintains traceability from the original business need through requirements, design decisions, validation, approval, and release.

Data Dictionary, Business Glossary, and KPI Governance

  • Leads the development and ongoing maintenance of the enterprise data dictionary and business glossary under the direction and sponsorship of Data Analytics leadership.
  • Works directly with business owners and data stewards to document and govern key business terms, KPIs, metrics, data definitions, and calculation methodologies.
  • Facilitates discussions to establish enterprise definitions and authoritative sources for critical business metrics.
  • Documents metric ownership, stewardship responsibilities, source mappings, calculation logic, refresh cadence, validation rules, reconciliation requirements, lineage, and consuming reports or semantic models.
  • Coordinates review and approval of new or changed definitions and maintain appropriate version history and supporting documentation.
  • Promotes adoption of approved definitions, certified metrics, and reusable business logic across reports, dashboards, and analytics products.

Data Validation, Quality Assurance, and User Acceptance Testing

  • Performs a structured quality review of reports, dashboards, semantic models, and analytical outputs before they are presented to business stakeholders for UAT.
  • Validates data completeness, accuracy, calculation logic, filter behavior, totals, effective dates, refresh expectations, and alignment with documented requirements.
  • Performs reconciliations between source systems, curated data, existing reports, and proposed reporting outputs.
  • Develops and executes practical test scenarios and document results, exceptions, known limitations, and required remediation.
  • Coordinates business UAT, ensure acceptance criteria are understood, track defects and decisions, and obtain appropriate business approval.
  • Investigates discrepancies, distinguishes source-data issues from transformation or reporting defects, and works with engineering resources to drive resolution.
  • Ensures analytics deliverables meet established quality and documentation standards before production release.

Analytics and Reporting Support

  • Analyzes data from internal and external sources to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and operational insights.
  • Assists in the design and review of reports, dashboards, scorecards, semantic models, and executive reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with BI developers, data engineers, internal technology teams, and third-party resources to ensure solutions meet approved business requirements.
  • Uses SQL, Power BI, Excel, and related tools as needed to profile data, validate outputs, investigate issues, or develop limited analytical prototypes.
  • Supports backlog intake, refinement, prioritization, estimation, and release-readiness processes for analytics requests.
  • Provides guidance to business users on KPI interpretation, report usage, data limitations, and analytical best practices.
  • Governance, Documentation, and Change Management
  • Maintains documentation for reports, dashboards, KPIs, business rules, source mappings, validation logic, lineage, data ownership, and known limitations.
  • Supports change control, release validation, operational acceptance, and documentation processes.
  • Promotes governance standards, approved definitions, certified metrics, least privilege access, and appropriate handling of confidential or regulated data.
  • Conducts stakeholder demonstrations, training, and knowledge-transfer activities to support adoption.
  • Participates in governance councils, working groups, requirement reviews, and business validation sessions.
  • Escalates unresolved definition conflicts, material data-quality concerns, control issues, and risks through appropriate channels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience / Training / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in business intelligence, analytics, enterprise reporting, business analysis, data governance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and managing business and reporting requirements.
  • Experience validating, reconciling, testing, and documenting analytical or reporting outputs.
  • Experience working with Power BI or another enterprise business intelligence platform.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI semantic models, OneLake, Lakehouse or Warehouse concepts, or another modern cloud analytics platform preferred.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks, business glossaries, enterprise data dictionaries, KPI catalogs, lineage, data quality, or data stewardship preferred.
  • Experience defining and governing enterprise KPIs and business metrics preferred.
  • Experience supporting Agile delivery teams, analytics backlogs, UAT, release management, or production acceptance preferred.
  • Experience coordinating work with vendors, consultants, or third-party technical delivery teams preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Working proficiency with SQL and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of banking, credit union, lending, deposit, payments, finance, risk, member, or digital banking data.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or a comparable work-management and source-control platform.
  • Familiarity with dimensional modeling, semantic models, DAX, Power Query, SSRS, or SQL Server reporting environments.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate discussions with business stakeholders and translate business needs into clear, testable requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow issues through resolution, and work independently on high-impact assignments.
  • Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate reliable records.
  • Requires good memory, knowledge retention skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and duties effectively..

This position is currently hybrid-eligible, with the expectation of three days pre-assigned on-site attendance. This role requires California residency and living within a 50-mile commute of our headquarters in Santa Ana.
