JOB TITLE: Associate Platform Engineer (SRE I) - India

JOB STATUS: Full-Time

DEPARTMENT: Platform Engineering

REPORTS TO: Vice President, IT, Information Security & Platform Engineering

SUMMARY

Amtech is scaling its Platform Engineering organization in India as our products move to a fully AWS-hosted, multi-tenant SaaS model. Our SRE practice keeps Encore, LabelTraxx, and supporting platforms reliable, observable, and secure across a multi-account AWS estate.

As an Associate Platform Engineer on the SRE track, you will learn reliability engineering by doing it: monitoring production services, executing runbooks, automating routine operations, and participating in incident response alongside senior engineers.

This is an early-career role designed for growth. You will pair with experienced SREs, receive structured mentorship, and build the foundation to progress through Amtech's engineering career ladder.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Monitoring & Reliability

  • Operate and tune monitoring, logging, and alerting for production services using our OpenTelemetry-based observability stack (OpenObserve, CloudWatch).
  • Track service-level indicators (SLIs) and objectives (SLOs); help maintain reliability dashboards and reports.
  • Assist with root cause analysis after incidents, documenting findings and follow-up actions.

Automation & Operations

  • Automate routine operational tasks with Python or Bash, and contribute to Terraform modules under review by senior engineers.
  • Support containerized and serverless workloads on ECS Fargate, EKS, and Lambda.
  • Support CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions and assist with environment provisioning.
  • Create and maintain runbooks and operational playbooks.

Incident Response

  • Join the on-call rotation with senior backup, responding to PagerDuty alerts and executing documented recovery procedures.
  • Propose improvements that reduce mean time to detection (MTTD) and mean time to recovery (MTTR).

Security & Compliance

  • Apply IAM, secrets management, and least-privilege practices in production environments.
  • Follow Amtech's SOC 2, ISO 27001, and internal security policies, and help maintain audit evidence for the systems you operate.

AI Competency

  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools for scripting, documentation, and troubleshooting with review discipline: never apply unreviewed AI-generated changes to any environment.
  • Verify AI output before use: cross-check against sources, test before running, and understand every line you accept.
  • Follow Amtech's AI acceptable-use and data classification policy; know what data must never enter AI tools.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Learn from senior SREs through paired work, design reviews, and post-incident reviews.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to internal knowledge bases.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 0-2 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, systems, or cloud engineering (internships and substantial personal or academic projects count).
  • Demonstrated ability to script in Python or Bash and to reason methodically through technical problems.
  • Foundational knowledge of AWS core services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC) or equivalent cloud fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Linux administration and basic networking (DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP).
  • Exposure to Git-based workflows (GitHub or similar).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting instincts; eager to learn from production systems.
  • Safe, effective use of AI assistants (coding copilots, chat tools), including a verification habit before accepting output.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate.
  • Exposure to Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of SLO/SLI concepts and incident management workflows.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry-based stacks).
