Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Enterprise Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Oracle database environments, ensuring high availability and performance through proactive monitoring, indexing, and query optimization.
In addition, responsibilities include cloning, exporting, and importing databases, schemas, and code repositories, as well as executing backup and restoring procedures to protect data integrity and business continuity.
The role further involves supporting Banner ERP (Ellucian) software upgrades, patches, and related Oracle database security updates, all in compliance with Federal and State regulations and institutional security policies. Beyond this, the role also covers administration of ERP application servers (e.g., Apache Tomcat), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and data storage systems, along with performance monitoring and lifecycle management through Oracle Enterprise Manager. It likewise encompasses migration initiatives to other platforms and data warehouse/ODS maintenance to support institutional reporting and analytics.
Finally, the Senior DBA helps create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshoots database incidents, collaborates with IT teams and NMSU departments on database solutions, and mentors junior DBAs, serving as an escalation point for complex issues.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: Associate's Degree + 9 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 7 years of relevant experience. Master's degree or higher preferred.
Equivalent Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: - ITIL is preferred. - Proficiency in Oracle Database (19c or later), including SQL and PL/SQL development. - Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms, preferably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Automatic Storage Management and Oracle Multi-tenant. - Strong understanding of relational database design, normalization, and data modeling. - Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization. - Familiarity with database backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning. - Knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell for database automation. - Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. - Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and cross-departmental teams.
Special Certification/Licensure: Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees, and the translation of other relevant employment documents prior to being offered employment at New Mexico State University. A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet an employment related credential requirement. An evaluation is required even if the foreign course work has been accepted by a college or university in the United States.
