Position: Senior UX Content Designer, Design Operations

Employment Type: Contract—14 months

Compensation Details:

  • Customer Experience 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.

Location: 

  • Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office three days per week. 
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview:

The Experience Design team is part of EDC's Customer Experience Centre of Excellence. Our mission is to help create simpler, more connected, accessible, and effective experiences for Canadian exporters across EDC's digital products, services, and channels.

We bring together expertise in user experience design, content design, accessibility, user research, service design, and design operations to better understand customer needs and translate those insights into meaningful experiences. We work closely with product teams, technology partners, business stakeholders, and customer-facing teams to ensure digital experiences are aligned, evidence-based, and designed around customer outcomes.

As a team, we establish and evolve the standards, patterns, research practices, and design capabilities that enable consistent and scalable experiences across EDC. This includes advancing accessibility and inclusive design, growing our enterprise design system, supporting customer research, and helping teams adopt best practices that improve experience quality and delivery effectiveness.

What you will be doing: 

Content design standards, governance & enablement

  • Support the development, maintenance, and governance of enterprise content design standards, guidelines, patterns, and best practices.
  • Help establish and evolve content standards that promote consistency, accessibility, clarity, and usability across digital experiences.
  • Conduct content reviews and provide recommendations to align deliverables with established standards and guidelines.
  • Partner with UX designers, accessibility specialists, product teams, and stakeholders to support adoption of content design practices.
  • Support the integration of content standards within design systems, templates, components, and delivery workflows.
  • Develop and maintain supporting resources, examples, and documentation that enable teams to consistently apply content standards.
  • Contribute to accessibility and inclusive design practices by incorporating WCAG requirements and plain language principles into content standards.
  • Monitor emerging content design, accessibility, and digital experience practices and recommend improvements.

User research operations & knowledge management

  • Coordinate user research activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external research partners.
  • Support user participant recruitment, screening, scheduling, and communications.
  • Manage research logistics, documentation, consent processes, and operational tracking.
  • Assist with research synthesis activities, including documenting findings, identifying themes, and preparing insights and recommendations.
  • Support validation of research findings with project teams and subject matter experts.
  • Maintain research repositories, knowledge management practices, templates, and operational processes that improve the accessibility and reuse of research insights.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of research operations practices and standards.

Vendor & stakeholder coordination

  • Act as a liaison between internal teams and external research vendors and partners.
  • Coordinate vendor activities, timelines, deliverables, and communications.
  • Monitor progress and escalate risks, issues, or dependencies as required.
  • Support procurement, onboarding, invoicing, and administrative processes related to vendor engagements.

Design operations & practice enablement

  • Support the continuous improvement of design operations processes, governance, and ways of working.
  • Help maintain team standards, templates, repositories, design documentation, and shared resources.
  • Support planning, coordination, and tracking of design initiatives and operational activities.
  • Contribute to the management and evolution of design system documentation, content resources, and enablement materials.
  • Assist in developing metrics and reporting that measure adoption, effectiveness, and maturity of design practices.
  • Support onboarding, knowledge-sharing, training, and team enablement initiatives.

What we are looking for: 

  • 7+ years of experience in Content Design, UX Writing, Design Operations, or a related discipline.
  • Experience creating, maintaining, or governing UX content standards, guidelines, design systems, or content frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, inclusive design principles, digital content best practices, and information architecture concepts.
  • Experience conducting content reviews and applying content standards to digital products and experiences.
  • Experience supporting enterprise design systems, content systems, or component libraries.
  • Experience managing content repositories, taxonomy, terminology, or information architecture assets.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods, synthesis techniques, and insight development.
  • Experience coordinating user research activities, participant recruitment, or research operations.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive content design practices (WCAG).
  • Experience facilitating workshops, training, onboarding, or practice enablement activities.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise digital product environments.
  • Experience building strong working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience developing governance models, standards, or operating practices for UX content design and UX research.
  • Experience measuring adoption and effectiveness of standards, frameworks, or operational programs.

What will make you stand out: 

  • Experience working within a UX Design Operations or UX Research Operations function.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Miro, Mural, UserTesting, Dovetail, Fable Engage, Azure DevOps, Microsoft 365, or similar collaboration and research platforms.
  • Fluently bilingual in both English and French, with the ability to review, evaluate, and support content design practices across both official languages.
