Job Description

Purpose of the role

To collaborate with product owners and other technical teams involved in the product development process and utilise their knowledge of the bank’s technologies to enact the vision defined in the product roadmap. 

Accountabilities

  • Provision of subject matter expertise to support the collaboration between the product owner and the technical side of product development.
  • Support the development and implementation of the product strategy and vision defined in the product roadmap and communicate them with the relevant stakeholders and the development team.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather and prioritise product requirements and features based on business value and feasibility that are well defined, measurable and secure.
  • Development and implementation of assessments to ensure continuous testing and improvement of product quality and performance.
  • Monitoring of product performance to identify opportunities for optimisation that meets the banks performance standards.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve product development and delivery.

Join Barclays as a Lead Data Platform Engineer, where you will play a critical role in shaping the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) by designing and delivering enterprise-wide data lineage and data quality capabilities. Working across a complex cloud data ecosystem, you will provide technical leadership for solutions that enable end-to-end visibility of data flows, from source systems through to regulatory, finance, treasury, and business reporting. As a senior engineering leader, you will manage a global team across the UK, US, and India, driving delivery, supporting EDP's transition to a product-led operating model, and ensuring data remains trusted, traceable, and fit for purpose across the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Strong experience in AWS and cloud-native application development.
  • Full-stack software engineering expertise, including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and RESTful APIs.
  • Proven data engineering experience with SQL, Spark, data quality frameworks, metadata management, and data lineage solutions, including OpenLineage.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience with Generative AI technologies, including LLMs, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI-powered integrations.
  • Knowledge of metadata, data catalogue, and lineage platforms such as OpenLineage, Marquez, or Alation.
  • Experience working with modern data platforms, including Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Glue, and data quality repositories.
  • Experience within financial services or a regulated industry is highly desirable.
