This role works closely with the Project Manager, superintendent, subcontractors, and design team to keep active commercial projects organized and moving forward. The position is designed for a commercially focused construction professional who wants to progress into full project management responsibility. The company delivers commercial projects throughout Central Virginia with an emphasis on execution, communication, quality, and client service.

Responsibilities

  • Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, project correspondence, and other documentation to keep projects organized and moving.
  • Assist with subcontractor scope review, scheduling, procurement, and follow-up on outstanding project requirements.
  • Review construction drawings and specifications to identify scope conflicts, missing information, and potential project issues.
  • Maintain project schedules and track progress against milestones, escalating delays or unresolved issues to the Project Manager.
  • Participate in owner, architect, subcontractor, and project meetings while documenting action items and following up through completion.
  • Assist with cost tracking, commitments, change orders, invoices, and other project financial documentation.
  • Conduct job-site visits as needed to verify progress, document conditions, and support communication between field and project teams.
  • Support punch list, final inspection, closeout, warranty, and turnover activities while developing the skills required for full project ownership.
  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, construction project coordination, project engineering, or a related role.
  • Experience working for a general contractor on commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, or similar projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Ability to work directly with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, superintendents, and clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction project management, scheduling, or document-control software.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple active project requirements simultaneously.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience will be considered.
  • Residential-only construction experience without commercial project exposure will not be sufficient for this role.

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.

Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
