Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As a Senior Android Developer in the Mobile Platform Team, you will be responsible for improving the infrastructure and tooling experience that every Android developer at BNZ depends on every day — from maintaining our CI/CD pipeline to evaluating and adopting new platform capabilities.  You will collaborate with various teams and stakeholders, which enables them to implement modern technology foundations to build market-leading experiences.

What are some of the responsibilities of this role?

  • Build Scalable Android Apps: Develop maintainable and performant applications using Kotlin and Android Studio, aligned with platform best practices.
  • Take responsibility for improving the Android build pipelines: Including addressing reliability issues, optimizing the CI/CD performance and looking for ways to save on build costs.
  • Maintain the Android platform: You'll plan and execute the major Android platform upgrades across our mobile apps. Participate in reviews, follow coding standards, and document solutions to ensure a clean, consistent, and scalable codebase.
  • AI Tooling: You will contribute to promoting AI adoption within the Android community and be proficient in creating AI skills that support investigation, architectural modernisation and optimisation.
  • Operational BAU: You’ll play a role in the team collective BAU responsibilities. Monitoring logs, alerts, test coverage health, incidents and triaging of incoming support issues.

What specific skills and experience would be beneficial for this role?

This is an opportunity for individuals skilled in Android app development, with a proven ability to contribute in a collaborative team environment. You will also bring:

  • Practical experience building and maintaining Android apps using Kotlin, with familiarity in Java for supporting legacy systems.
  • Solid understanding of the Android SDK, Material Design Guidelines, and the end-to-end mobile development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with Android Studio and Git, along with experience using modern development workflows and common Android libraries.
  • Cost/resource management for build infrastructure.
  • Exposure to CI/CD technology layers including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Dagger/Hilt, Jenkins pipelines, Firebase Test Lab, Gradle ,GitHub Copilot agent frameworks, and Android SDK toolchains.
