This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Engineer - Presystem based in Canada.

This role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-scale database solutions within modern cloud environments.The position will play a key role in helping organizations build secure, scalable, and high-performing data platforms using advanced cloud database technologies.The ideal candidate will combine deep database expertise with strong cloud engineering capabilities to deliver reliable solutions and support complex migrations.Working with enterprise stakeholders, this professional will translate business requirements into efficient technical architectures and data strategies.The role requires strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership, and the ability to improve performance, reliability, and availability across critical systems.This is an opportunity for an experienced data engineer to contribute to large-scale cloud transformation initiatives in a highly technical environment.

Accountabilities: The Data Engineer will be responsible for architecting, deploying, and maintaining enterprise database environments while ensuring scalability, security, and operational excellence. The role involves working closely with technical teams and customers to design solutions, optimize performance, and support cloud modernization initiatives.

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-grade database solutions using cloud-managed and cloud-native database services.
  • Implement and maintain database architectures across platforms such as Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Bigtable, AlloyDB, and Firestore.
  • Lead complex database migration projects from on-premises environments or other cloud platforms to Google Cloud.
  • Develop migration strategies for both homogeneous and heterogeneous database environments while minimizing downtime.
  • Analyze and resolve advanced database performance issues through query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and system tuning.
  • Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, replication, backup, and point-in-time recovery strategies.
  • Partner with enterprise customers and internal teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Establish and enforce database security practices, including encryption, identity management, access controls, and compliance standards.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and database operations using Infrastructure as Code tools and scripting solutions.
  • Support application development teams by understanding database connectivity, integrations, and related programming concepts.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to best practices around cloud database engineering and modernization.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in database engineering, cloud platforms, and enterprise data solutions. This professional should have strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with customers and engineering teams.

  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing Google Cloud database services, including Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Bigtable, AlloyDB, and Firestore.
  • Strong expertise in relational database management systems such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Deep understanding of database architecture, schema design, concurrency controls, and enterprise database engines.
  • Experience executing large-scale database migrations using tools such as Google Cloud Database Migration Service, Ora2Pg, CDC pipelines, or similar technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of database performance optimization, including query analysis, execution plans, wait states, indexing, and connection management.
  • Experience designing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including replication, failover, multi-region deployments, and recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with automation scripting using Python, Bash, Go, or similar technologies.
  • Ability to understand and modify application database connectivity code using languages such as Java or Python.
  • Familiarity with build systems, ORMs, and database libraries including JDBC, ODBC, and Hibernate.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in complex technical environments.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer certification.
  • Experience managing hybrid or multi-cloud data environments, including AWS or Azure migrations.
  • Experience integrating database platforms with analytics and data pipeline solutions such as Dataflow and CDC workflows.
  • Advanced automation and monitoring experience using scripting technologies.
