This role requires hands-on experience with modern data platforms, data warehousing, big data technologies, and DevOps practices, along with a strong focus on operational activities such as risk management, compliance, asset governance, controls implementation, audit support, and maintaining technology assets in accordance with organizational standards.
The team
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable data platforms and analytics solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in data engineering with operational excellence to ensure data assets remain secure, compliant, reliable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
Experience within the banking or financial services industry is highly preferred, particularly in regulated environments where data governance, security, risk, and compliance are critical.
Roles and responsibilities
Senior Data engineer with Devops experience with processing data for BI purposes: exploring and processing large data, data modelling, data warehouses, data quality, and analysis.
- Support data analysis initiatives by enabling high-quality, trusted datasets and collaborating with business stakeholders to deliver actionable insights.
- Hands on experience in Creating data models and Deploying CICD pipelines.
- Own and drive data platform compliance activities, including ITRMP controls, audit support, risk remediation, vulnerability management, disaster recovery testing, and asset governance.
- Ensure all data lake assets comply with ING security, architecture, data governance, and regulatory requirements.
- Extensive experience in developing self-service BI solutions, managing integrated datasets, and coordinating data projects.
- Experience in maintaining data warehouse systems and working on large scale data transformation using EMR, Hadoop, Hive, or other Big Data technologies
- Experience mentoring and managing other Data Engineers, ensuring data engineering best practices are being followed
- Experience with cloud resource management, capacity planning, cost optimization, and platform scalability.
- Experience with coding languages like Python/Java/Scala
- Continuous collaboration within the team to challenge each other and share knowledge.
- Experience with Power BI and modern cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is preferred.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong expertise in data modelling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT design, and large-scale data processing.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines for data platforms and applications.
- Extensive experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, or similar frameworks.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala.
- Experience developing and supporting self-service BI and analytics solutions.
- Proven track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
- Experience managing technology risks, controls, compliance requirements, and audit activities.
- Familiarity with ITRMP, operational risk management, security controls, and asset compliance processes.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
