What they look for
Requirements
Candidates must have 8+ years of production Java experience with deep expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x. You are required to have a proven track record of using agentic coding tools and managing service pipelines independently using Docker and Kubernetes.
Full description
NoA Ignite is a consulting, design and technology company with 450 employees across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Poland, part of The North Alliance — a Nordic network of around 1,250 specialists in creativity and technology. We're looking for a Senior Java Developer in Stockholm who works AI-natively as their default mode, not as something switched on for a demo.
Role Overview You'll deliver backend services on client engagements end to end: shaping the spec, building the service, writing the tests, owning the pipeline, and shipping to production — then supporting what you've built. As an agency, we move between client contexts rather than sitting inside one product roadmap, so you'll work across cross-functional teams and have direct contact with client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Your day-to-day AI practice matters as much as your Java depth: daily use of agentic coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot for generation, refactoring, test authoring and review, working from structured specifications rather than verbal tickets, and writing reusable skill files that help other engineers get consistent results from AI. You'll configure MCP servers, reason about which model suits which task, and manage context deliberately on long-running work — while staying critical of what AI produces and clear about when not to use it. On the Java side, you'll build with Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x across microservices and event-driven designs, secure APIs with OAuth2/OIDC, design PostgreSQL schemas, work with Kafka or equivalent messaging, and own your service's pipeline end to end on GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes rather than handing off to a platform team. Beyond the code, you'll estimate honestly, flag risk early, write documentation that lets you hand over cleanly, and contribute to pitches and technical scoping when asked.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of production Java experience, including 12+ months with an agentic workflow as your primary way of working
- Deep, current Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x expertise across microservices, event-driven design and resilience patterns
- End-to-end ownership of your own service pipeline — GitHub Actions or equivalent, Docker, Kubernetes, GitOps — without relying on a platform team
- Daily, unprompted use of agentic coding tools for generation, refactoring, test authoring and review
- Working depth in at least one of Azure, AWS or GCP
- Professional English; Swedish is an advantage for client work but not required
Nice to Have
- Working React / TypeScript ability
- Kotlin
- Terraform, Helm and secrets management (e.g. Vault)
- Redis and pgvector or similar for AI-backed features
- Regulated-sector delivery experience (finance, public sector, healthcare)
- Experience introducing AI-assisted ways of working to a team that hadn't used them before
Who We're Looking For You're someone who treats agentic tooling as a normal part of engineering rather than a novelty, and you back that up with judgement — you review what AI generates critically and know where it can't be trusted yet. You're comfortable inheriting someone else's system, including the parts that aren't good, and you can hold your own with a client stakeholder under pressure without losing the thread of the technical trade-off you're explaining. Ownership matters to you: you want to be trusted in front of a client without supervision, and you'd rather raise a colleague's practice by example than by lecture.
What We Offer Real ownership of services in production, not just a slice of them. Variety across client contexts rather than one static roadmap, in a company where AI-native delivery is the standard we hire for, not a pilot someone's still trying to get funded. You'll be part of The North Alliance's Nordic network of around 1,250 specialists in creativity and technology.
