We're searching for an IT Data Engineer, Associate to join our UPMC Corporate Marketing team! This position offers a weekly, hybrid work schedule where you'll be onsite 2-3 times/week at the US Steel Tower.
In this role, the Associate IT Data Engineer supports tool-driven and custom end-to-end data accessibility solutions for large data sets of diverse and complex healthcare data. The team has set a high standard for quality, and deliveries require accuracy, performance stability, security, robust monitoring, alerting and pipeline uptime requirements. The engineer will work closely with various business, technical and possibly clinical professionals daily. Additional responsibilities may include product support and ongoing datamaintenance responsibilities. This position will be required to manage support for multiple projects, prioritize work, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate general knowledge of healthcare integration engines (IBM ACE, Rhapsody, or similar), HL7, CDA, FHIR, healthcare applications, clinical and EMR workflows, and basic database querying skills.
- Demonstrate competency for common healthcare IT systems and data warehousing concepts
- Work with support of other Data Engineers as needed, on user stories/requirements gathering; own and work on stories through each of the project phases effectively.
- Acquire datasets that align with business needs
- Develop algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information
- Build, test, and maintain database pipeline architectures
- Create new data validation methods and data analysis tools
- Maintain technical implementation and supporting documentation and ensure compliance with UPMC data governance and security policies
- Document, troubleshoot, and appropriately address production issues with the customer and effectively communicate with the team and other stakeholders.
- Complete projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach.
- Bachelor's degree in a field like mathematics, statistics, economics, finance or computer science, or other relevant field preferred.
- Typically has three years of relevant experience, e.g., Business Analyst, Report Developer, Systems Analyst, Software Engineer, DBA or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with ETL tools, big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka and cloud platforms like Azure, Snowflake.
- Demonstrated familiarity with integration tools, Java, Camel, Spring, Kubernetes, Azure Functions and Azure Data Factory.
