SUMMARY

The Manager, Engineering reports to the Director, Engineering and leads a team of software engineers who build and sustain the products Armor’s customers depend on. This is a hands-on leadership position: the manager writes production code, opens and reviews pull requests, and ships alongside the engineers they lead. The role exercises independent judgment and discretion in setting technical direction, making architecture decisions, prioritizing defects and feature work, directing incident response, and developing engineering talent. Armor is looking for a technical leader with a track record of building and shipping high-quality software with AI-assisted development tools, and with the engineering judgment to raise the bar on architecture, delivery speed, and engineering ownership. This is a full-time in-office role based in Pune, India; on-site presence five days a week is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Additional duties may be assigned as required)

  • Lead and manage a high-performing AI-native software engineering team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and hands-on guidance while building a culture of engineering ownership.
  • Contribute directly to architecture, design, code reviews, and implementation of complex software, working in the repository alongside the team rather than reviewing from a distance.
  • Own day-to-day delivery for the assigned product areas, including feature work, defect triage, regression prevention, and customer escalations, and keep the Director, Engineering current on status and risk.
  • Drive end-to-end engineering execution with minimal reliance on product management, translating business objectives into working software.
  • Execute release management discipline set by the Director, Engineering, including change windows, rollback criteria, and release readiness for the team’s work.
  • Put AI-assisted development tools into daily engineering practice, measure the effect on delivery speed and quality, and hold the team to production-grade standards for AI-generated code.
  • Evaluate emerging AI frameworks, foundation models, developer tools, and cloud technologies, balancing rapid experimentation against production-grade engineering discipline.
  • Hire and build the team, including defining the technical hiring bar, running interview loops, and onboarding new engineers.
  • Manage relationships with third-party technology vendors by evaluating platform usage, monitoring cost and performance, assessing alternatives, and providing technical recommendations that support renewals, negotiations, and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Collaborate with global and regional teams, ensuring clear communication, knowledge sharing, and alignment across distributed engineering teams.
  • Manage team performance through regular one-on-one meetings, goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, and career development planning.
  • Serve as the escalation point for production incidents and customer-impacting issues, coordinating rapid response, running post-incident reviews, and feeding the findings back into engineering practice.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrated track record of shipping production software that customers depend on. Show us the work; we do not screen on years on a resume.
  • Experience leading or managing software engineers, including performance management, coaching, and career development.
  • Hands-on production experience delivering software with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or equivalent.
  • Strong frontend and backend development skills using technologies such as React, TypeScript, C#, Node.js, Python, or Go, with demonstrated ability to contribute directly to code, architecture, and technical problem-solving.
  • Excellent software architecture skills, with the ability to set architectural direction, establish engineering standards, and promote practices that improve security, quality, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Production experience with AWS, Azure, or another major cloud platform, including deploying and operating applications in cloud environments.
  • Proven ability to combine hands-on development with leadership responsibilities without sacrificing either.
  • Strong defect management and quality engineering instincts, including the ability to distinguish a regression from a customer-found defect from a product gap, and to treat each one differently.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes for scalable application delivery.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Strong experience with relational, non-relational, and AI-enabled data platforms, including SQL and NoSQL databases, vector databases, data modeling, performance tuning, and scalable data architectures for AI applications.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role, providing both technical advice and strategic direction to help customers reach their goals.
  • Git proficiency including branching strategies, code review workflows, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Understanding of AI/LLM security risks including prompt injection, data leakage, and model limitations.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output for accuracy and security implications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across distributed teams and time zones.
  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred: experience with virtualization, infrastructure, and data protection technologies such as VMware vSphere, Proxmox, NSX-T, FortiMonitor, Zerto, and Rubrik.
  • Preferred: cybersecurity background covering XDR, MDR, SIEM, SOC tooling, endpoint detection and response, threat detection, incident response, and security monitoring.
