Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
This is a great opportunity to join our Finance Systems Team and play a key role in an important SAP Finance transformation project. The team supports users across BNZ Finance Systems and helps maintain and improve the systems that enable accurate, timely and relevant information and insights for our business.
In this 6-month fixed-term contract, you’ll use your strong SAP functional experience to support project-based activities and help ensure a smooth migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, with a focus on testing, issue resolution, documentation and stakeholder engagement.
What are the key day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Set up detailed test plans for unit and SIT testing.
- Perform unit and SIT testing for integrations into SAP and impacted SAP transactions.
- Assist with cutover planning and execution.
- Apply strong problem-solving skills when issues arise to understand the root cause from a functional perspective, using your technical insights to interpret system behaviour.
- Engage closely with stakeholders and translate business needs into clear functional requirements.
- Maintain a high standard of documentation for key tasks and processes.
- Identify and support enhancements that streamline processes and optimise system performance, working with relevant BNZ Technology teams and vendors.
- Undertake complex system reviews using SQL-based data analysis.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, with the ability to interpret technical systems and explain information to different audiences.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
To be successful in this role, you’ll be a hands-on problem solver who can quickly add value in a complex finance systems environment. You’ll bring at least 5 years’ experience in a finance systems support role, with a strong focus on systems, applications and functional support, rather than accounting responsibilities. Experience within the banking or financial services industry would be beneficial. You’ll also bring:
- Solid experience using SQL and understanding of database technologies, enabling you to extract and analyse data, investigate issues, and support informed decision-making.
- Proven technical ability to support system enhancements and resolve defects. This is not a developer role, and hands-on coding is not required.
- Experience in systems change management, with the ability to assess impacts and support delivery.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills within a functional support context, including the ability to quickly understand issues and drive resolution independently or in collaboration with others.
- You’ll work with a variety of stakeholders across BNZ, so strong relationship-building and communication skills are essential.
- Ability to translate business requirements into systems solutions.
What is exciting about this opportunity?
What makes this opportunity exciting is the chance to contribute to a significant SAP Finance transformation at BNZ, using your functional expertise to help support a smooth migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. This is more than a business-as-usual systems support role — you’ll be involved in meaningful project work, partnering with stakeholders, solving complex system issues, and helping deliver improvements that support Finance teams across the business. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and being part of work that has a real impact.
