About the Opportunity
Location: Costa Rica Contract Type: Freelance Project Duration: 6 months with possible renewal for 12 months Project Capacity: Up to 30 per week Dates: ASAP
SweetRush is a remote organization, and as such, all resources must be technically savvy, have access to a strong internet signal, be comfortable with virtual/instant messaging and conferencing tools, and generally be available during established working hours.
Your Impact and Responsibilities
The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for maintaining the reliability, availability, and performance of our systems and services. This role combines software engineering and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. The SRE will also play a key role in maintaining, updating, and rolling out new software to Kubernetes, as well as converting legacy applications into containerized applications that can be deployed in Kubernetes.
Essential functions include:
- Design, implement, and maintain monitoring and alerting systems.
- Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure reliability and performance in production environments.
- Maintain, update, and roll out new software to Kubernetes, ensuring seamless integration and deployment.
- Convert legacy applications into containerized applications that can be loaded into Kubernetes, enhancing scalability and manageability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, performing root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain documentation for systems and processes.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems.
What You Bring - Required Skills
- 5+ years in SRE, Production Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure roles
- Strong experience operating production systems in AWS
- Deep knowledge of Linux systems architecture
- Experience managing infrastructure using Terraform (or similar IaC tools)
- Experience with Kubernetes in production environments
- Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar)
- Experience designing, monitoring and alerting systems
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals
SRE Mindset
- Experience defining and measuring SLOs/SLIs
- Strong incident management experience
- Passion for automation and eliminating manual toil
- Data-driven approach to reliability and performance
Nice to Have
- Experience in multi-cloud environments (Azure)
- Experience with security frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.)
- Familiarity with cost optimization in cloud environments
- Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service tooling
