Overview
The Senior Software Engineering Manager will lead two cross-functional, agile engineering teams responsible for delivering scalable, cloud-native products and platform capabilities that power Eagleview One and Horizon. This leader will develop engineering talent, strengthen product delivery and technical excellence, and advance responsible AI-assisted software development practices.
Working closely with Product Management, UX, GIS specialists, AI engineers, Platform teams, and Architecture, this leader will guide the delivery of interactive mapping, immersive 3D visualization, intelligent workflows, and scalable geospatial services. The role requires strong people leadership, sound technical and architectural judgment, and a consistent focus on customer value and measurable business outcomes.
Responsibilities
People and Team Leadership
- Lead two cross-functional engineering teams delivering scalable, cloud-native products and platform capabilities.
- Recruit, coach, and develop team members through clear expectations, timely feedback, performance management, career development, and talent reviews.
- Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build effective partnerships with global teams across locations, cultures, and time zones.
Product Delivery
- Partner with Product Management, UX, Architecture, GIS, AI, and Platform teams to translate customer and business priorities into executable plans.
- Lead roadmap and release delivery, balancing commitments with quality, technical health, and customer value.
- Use engineering, product, and operational metrics to improve predictability, quality, and team effectiveness.
- Proactively manage and communicate delivery risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical direction for cloud-native applications, distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, and scalable web platforms.
- Oversee architecture and solution reviews to ensure designs are secure, reliable, observable, maintainable, scalable, and cost-effective.
- Guide technical planning, integration decisions, and responsible technical-debt management.
- Lead the delivery of interactive mapping, imagery, geospatial analytics, and 2D and 3D visualization capabilities.
AI and Engineering Excellence
- Drive responsible adoption of AI-assisted development across both teams, including coding, testing, documentation, automation, and design activities.
- Coach team members on effective AI practices and measure their impact on engineering quality and productivity.
- Champion automated testing, CI/CD, Secure SDLC, DevSecOps, observability, reliability, and production readiness.
- Promote continuous improvement through engineering metrics, retrospectives, operational reviews, and shared learning.
Cloud Governance and Operational Efficiency
- Ensure the teams’ AWS solutions comply with company standards for architecture, security, privacy, resilience, and cloud governance.
- Monitor cloud usage and cost and drive cost-conscious architectural and operational decisions.
- Partner with Platform, Security, FinOps, and Architecture teams to improve deployment automation, platform reliability, developer experience, and cost efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 or more years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading and developing engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success recruiting, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of software engineers.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams delivering and operating cloud-native, highly available enterprise applications.
- Strong technical and architectural judgment across distributed systems, APIs, data-intensive applications, and modern web technologies.
- Experience overseeing architecture and solution reviews with a focus on security, reliability, scalability, maintainability, observability, and cost efficiency.
- Experience translating product strategy and customer needs into technical plans, delivery milestones, and measurable outcomes.
- Experience improving software quality and delivery through modern engineering practices, operational metrics, and continuous improvement.
- Experience adopting AI-assisted development tools or other engineering productivity practices with appropriate attention to quality, security, privacy, and responsible use.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs.
- Experience collaborating with distributed, global teams in an agile product-development environment.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience leading teams that build geospatial, mapping, imagery, analytics, or data-visualization products.
- Familiarity with GIS concepts, spatial data, geospatial APIs, and interactive 2D or 3D visualization.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, serverless, or event-driven architectures.
- Experience improving delivery and operations through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, DevSecOps, and reliability engineering.
- Experience scaling AI-assisted development practices across engineering teams.
- Familiarity with LLM-assisted development, context engineering, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Experience managing cloud governance, usage, and cost optimization in partnership with Platform, Security, Architecture, or FinOps teams.
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with global teams, multiple platforms, and cross-team dependencies.
