We are looking for a senior Java engineer to join the Logistics team at Protolabs, where our mission is to provide a single, reliable platform for shipping that the rest of the business builds on. The team is responsible for global shipments and logistics, carrier management, rates, tracking, customs, and enabling our manufacturing partners to ship on our behalf - capabilities that today are spread across multiple services and tools built independently by different teams.

We're consolidating these into a coherent domain, designing new services and integrations while gradually replacing the patchwork, and building foundations that hold up as Protolabs continues to scale globally. You'll ship early, small slices of value while getting the abstractions right for the long term.

What You'll Do:

ERP Application Development & Support

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enhancements to the company's ERP system.

• Provide day-to-day technical support for existing business operations, including troubleshooting and resolving application issues.

• Maintain and enhance integrations between the ERP and other corporate systems.

• Ensure ERP solutions meet performance, reliability, and security standards.

Business Enhancements

• Partner with business stakeholders and functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Deliver new features and improvements that support evolving business processes.

• Participate in solution design, technical reviews, and impact assessments for proposed changes.

Technical Excellence & Collaboration

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established development standards.

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.

• Collaborate effectively with engineers, analysts, QA, and operations teams.

• Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to team members and stakeholders.

Automation & Innovation

• Explore and apply AI-based tools or techniques to improve development efficiency and automation, where appropriate.

• Stay current with best practices in ERP development, Microsoft technologies, and enterprise systems.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

What It Takes:

Technical

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Professional experience developing and supporting enterprise applications.

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX in a development or support role.

• Strong understanding of ERP application architecture and business process support.

• Experience with version control systems and modern development workflows.

• Proficiency in Microsoft-based development environments.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders, functional analysts, and cross-functional engineering teams.

• Clear communicator, able to convey progress, risks, and dependencies to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Active participant in code reviews, technical reviews, and continuous improvement of development practices.

Work Environment:

• Primarily performed in an indoor, air-conditioned office setting requiring normal safety precautions.

• Occasional time in manufacturing areas exposed to machinery, noise, and other environmental conditions; eye protection occasionally required.
