What you’ll be doing
We are looking for an experienced Senior Fortinet Engineer to share technical leadership of a large, international network environment for a key Atturra client. You will join an established team alongside another senior engineer and two junior engineers. Together, you will keep services secure and reliable, deliver network change, and improve the standards and documentation that support day-to-day operations.
This is a hands-on role for someone with deep Fortinet capability, sound judgement during complex incidents, and the ability to collaborate, share knowledge and mentor less experienced engineers while explaining technical issues clearly to operational teams and senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and architecture. Design secure, scalable network solutions using the Fortinet stack and complementary technologies.
• Implementation and change. Deploy, configure and integrate network, security, SD-WAN and telephony services, including migrations, upgrades and transformation projects.
• Operations and performance. Monitor availability and performance, maintain network services proactively, and keep configuration records, asset registers and management tools current.
• Incident response. Diagnose complex faults, restore service with minimal disruption, coordinate escalations and provide clear updates under pressure.
• Security and governance. Apply network security standards and support the client's governance, audit and risk requirements.
• Documentation. Produce and maintain network designs, as-built diagrams, test plans, operating procedures, runbooks and service reports.
• Stakeholder collaboration. Work with the client's service desk, applications and infrastructure teams, as well as ISPs, network operators and third-party vendors.
• Team collaboration and mentoring. Work closely with the other senior engineer, share knowledge across the team, and support the two junior engineers through practical coaching, technical guidance and review.
• Continuous improvement. Help strengthen technical standards, reusable processes and service quality across the client environment and Atturra Managed Services.
What will make you successful in this role?
- At least five years of specialist Fortinet experience and 10 or more years of broader network engineering experience in enterprise or service provider environments.
- Advanced experience with Fortinet firewalls and associated management, endpoint, switching, wireless and connectivity products.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise network architecture, TCP/IP, routing protocols, VPN technologies, SD-WAN and security practices.
- A track record of producing clear network designs, as-built documentation and test plans, and of following structured change and troubleshooting practices.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and remain effective during high-impact incidents.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to work with technical teams, client leaders and external service providers.
- Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers and contributing constructively within a technical team.
- A tertiary qualification in computing or information science, or equivalent practical experience.
Working conditions
- Full time permanent opportunity
- Based in Melbourne
- Must have current full Australian driver's licence
