Application Support Engineer - Investment (Ops + Trading)

Overview

At Publicis Sapient, we partner with some of the world's leading financial institutions to modernize mission-critical platforms through innovative engineering and operational excellence. We're looking for a Senior Application Support Engineer to support complex investment operations and trading applications that power front, middle, and back-office functions.

This role combines deep technical troubleshooting, application support, and investment domain expertise. You'll work closely with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to ensure high availability, resolve complex production issues, improve operational stability, and drive continuous improvements across a fast-paced trading environment.

Your Impact

Deliver Critical Trading & Application Support

• Provide advanced L1/L2 production support for investment and trading platforms, ensuring high availability and operational stability.

• Monitor business-critical applications, trading services, messaging components, and SaaS integrations using enterprise monitoring tools.

• Respond to incidents within defined SLAs, perform impact assessments, and communicate updates to technical and business stakeholders.

• Support trading-day operations, including order lifecycle investigations, allocation issues, reconciliation activities, and production validations.

Troubleshoot Complex Enterprise Applications

• Perform root cause analysis across Java applications, messaging systems, APIs, databases, and third-party investment platforms.

• Diagnose issues related to Spring Boot services, IBM MQ, Kafka, REST/SOAP integrations, and enterprise middleware.

• Troubleshoot Charles River IMS (CRD), Seismic, Responsive RFP, and related SaaS platforms, coordinating with vendors when necessary.

• Validate fixes through regression and smoke testing before production deployments.

Drive Operational Excellence

• Participate in major incident management, helping coordinate technical investigations, recovery efforts, and post-incident reviews.

• Identify recurring issues, perform trend analysis, and contribute to automation initiatives that reduce operational effort and improve system reliability.

• Support Change Management processes, including production deployments, rollback planning, and release validation.

• Maintain operational documentation, knowledge articles, runbooks, and support procedures.

Collaborate Across Global Teams

• Work closely with software engineers, product teams, infrastructure, DevOps, vendors, and business stakeholders to resolve production issues efficiently.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies while supporting continuous delivery and operational readiness.

• Share knowledge with teammates and contribute to improving support processes and operational best practices.

Responsibilities

Skills & Experience

• 4–8 years of experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments, preferably within financial services or investment management.

• Strong experience supporting Java applications using Java 8+, Spring Framework/Spring Boot, multithreading concepts, JVM troubleshooting, and JPA/Hibernate.

• Experience troubleshooting messaging technologies including IBM MQ, Kafka, JMS, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Hands-on experience working with REST and SOAP APIs, including testing, payload validation, and troubleshooting using tools such as Postman or cURL.

• Strong SQL skills with experience querying Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL for production support and data validation.

• Experience supporting Charles River IMS (CRD) or similar Order Management Systems (OMS), including investment workflows and trade lifecycle support.

• Understanding of investment management concepts including equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, trade lifecycle, post-trade reconciliation, and pre-trade compliance.

• Experience supporting SaaS enterprise platforms, user administration, integrations, authentication (SSO/SAML), and synchronization processes.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Kubernetes/Docker environments, and production release processes.

• Experience using monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, or similar.

• Working knowledge of ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes using ServiceNow, Jira, or equivalent tools.

• Scripting experience with Shell/Bash and Python for automation, log analysis, and operational support.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, weekend support, or off-hours production activities when required.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience supporting Charles River Development (CRD), State Street Alpha, or other investment management platforms.

• Knowledge of FIX Protocol (4.4/5.0), order routing, execution management, and electronic trading workflows.

• Experience supporting Spring Boot microservices, health monitoring, and distributed systems.

• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, including services like S3, Lambda, or Azure Entra ID.

• Experience with distributed caching technologies such as Redis or Oracle Coherence.

• Familiarity with settlement processes, regulatory reporting, or capital markets operations.

• Experience driving operational automation, self-healing capabilities, or AI-assisted support initiatives.

• Previous experience working in highly regulated financial services or asset management organizations.
