Overview
The Senior Hardware Product Manager role is among the most challenging and rewarding at Sunrun. You will develop and launch new products and iteratively improve Sunrun's core offerings — solar, battery storage, EV chargers, and home electrification. Sunrun installs for tens of thousands of customers annually, and your work will directly shape those projects and customers' experience. The critical focus of this role is product-market fit, go-to-market strategy, and revenue strategy.
This is an individual contributor role that leads through influence, partnering with nearly every department at Sunrun — Engineering, Finance, Grid Services, Supply Chain, Operations, Sales, IT, and Legal. The successful candidate is self-directed, takes ownership in ambiguous situations, and pairs boardroom polish with get-it-done grit: equally comfortable digging deep into complex datasets and stepping back to assess opportunities in the context of the broader market. They bring exceptional financial modeling and analytical skills, galvanize others to their vision, and seek to understand what customers, sales reps, and installers care about — both at the point of sale and years later.
Responsibilities
- Lead product management for key elements of Sunrun's electrification portfolio, such as EV charging, V2X solutions, home energy management, and energy storage.
- Partner with Sales, Operations, Finance, and Engineering leaders to define energy products strategy and manage the product roadmap that supports it.
- Understand, articulate, and manage the impact of new products on sales, operations, and customer service teams.
- Own the full product development lifecycle — from ideation and business case development through launch and post-launch management — in partnership with Finance, Technology, and Legal.
- Conduct the financial analysis needed to support new products and make pricing recommendations that balance Sunrun margin with robust growth.
- Serve as Sunrun's expert on customer needs, business drivers, the market and policy landscape, and technology options for your products, and drive strategic product decisions accordingly.
- Own solution innovation in your domain, discovering differentiated approaches to meet our customer’s unmet needs. Prioritize opportunities with data-informed analysis and a well honed product sense. Ensure that the products you champion support and enhance Sunrun’s overall offer portfolio.
- Work closely with senior management on ad-hoc high priority strategic initiatives
