Full description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive cloud platform, and our Worldwide Public Sector team helps mission-driven organizations use the cloud to scale their impact. Within Public Sector, our United Nations territory serves some of the most recognizable institutions in the world, including United Nations agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and global bodies whose mandates reach nearly every country and hundreds of millions of people.
As a Senior Solutions Architect supporting UN customers, you will be the trusted technical advisor to CTOs, CIOs, Directors of Technology, and their engineering leaders at these globally distributed institutions. You will help them modernize legacy systems, build AI-powered services for their constituencies, unlock insights from decades of programme and operational data, and scale secure digital platforms that operate across regions, languages, and data-sovereignty requirements.
You will work closely with Account Managers, Business Development, Partners, and Professional Services to design and deliver cloud solutions that solve real mission problems. That ranges from migrating off on-premises and other public cloud estates, to modernizing enterprise applications and constituent platforms, to modernizing contact center and constituent engagement channels with Amazon Connect, to launching generative AI assistants that improve programme delivery, to building data platforms that unify operational, programme, and member-state data. You will lead architecture reviews, run customer-facing workshops such as Immersion Days, Well-Architected Reviews, and GenAI build days, and earn customer trust through deep technical expertise and genuine curiosity about their mission.
Work with United Nations customers is consultative, high-trust, and deeply relationship-driven. These customers are not simply buying technology. They are stewarding the trust of member states and the communities they serve, protecting sensitive personal data, and answering to governing bodies that expect both mission impact and operational excellence. This role calls for an SA who can move fluently between whiteboard-level architecture conversations, hands-on prototyping, and executive-level strategic discussions.
Key job responsibilities Serve as the primary technical advisor to a portfolio of UN customers, owning architecture guidance across migration, modernization, data and analytics, AI/ML, and security domains
Partner with Account Managers to develop and execute account strategies, including technical discovery, solution design, and opportunity progression from Prospect through Launched
Lead customer-facing technical engagements including Well-Architected Reviews, migration assessments, architecture deep-dives, and generative AI accelerators such as build days, proofs of concept, and AI-DLC sessions
Design and review architectures that address the specific needs of United Nations customers, including enterprise application and ERP modernization, constituent and member-state portals, contact center and community engagement platforms built on Amazon Connect, payment and grant systems, event and conference platforms, and unified data platforms spanning multiple regions
Evangelize AWS services through customer speaking engagements, blog posts, reference architectures, workshops, and conference presentations targeted at the public sector and UN community
Collaborate with AWS service teams, specialist SAs, and Partners to deliver integrated solutions and to feed customer requirements back into AWS roadmaps via Product Feature Requests (PFRs)
Mentor early career talent and contribute to the broader AWS SA community through internal content, mock interviews, and technical field community initiatives
A day in the life No two days look the same, but a typical one blends deep technical work with customer time. You might spend the morning in an architecture review with a UN agency, working through how to migrate a core system while meeting their data residency and sovereignty requirements. Later, you help an Account Manager prepare for an Executive Briefing, framing a multi-year cloud strategy in terms a governing board will care about. Between customer engagements, you make time to go deep on the technical problems that matter most to your accounts, and to support a newer SA on the team. The balance shifts week to week, but the through-line is the same: you are the person your customers rely on to work through their most important architecture questions, from first conversation to launch.
About the team The AWS United Nations team is a small, high-trust group of Solutions Architects dedicated to the most influential intergovernmental and UN-affiliated institutions in the world. Our customers are mission-driven but operationally rigorous. They steward decades of programme and operational data, operate across many countries and languages, protect sensitive PII, and answer to member states and the communities they serve.
We are a team of senior individual contributors who own deep technical relationships with our customers. We pair closely with Account Managers on territory strategy, partner tightly with AWS Professional Services and Partner organizations, and lean on one another for peer review, whiteboarding, and customer escalation support. Every SA leads their own portfolio while contributing to the broader Public Sector and AWS community through technical content, workshop delivery, mentorship, and field initiatives.
We value ownership and initiative. Our SAs guide their accounts from discovery through launch and act as the customer's primary technical advocate inside AWS. We also value curiosity and depth. Our customers bring us genuinely difficult architectural challenges, and we take pride in going deep on the ones that matter most, whether that is GenAI latency tuning, large-scale migration, or zero-trust identity architectures.
The team supports customers primarily across Geneva, Rome, Valencia, New York, and Vienna, and other locations where the UN agencies we serve are based. We also support country offices across Asia, South America, Africa, and the Middle East, working with local UN staff on large humanitarian and peacekeeping programmes spanning supply chain modernization, situational awareness, and secure communications. Whilst there is the possibility for some flexibility around working, you would be required to spend regular time at Amazon's office in Geneva where the AWS UN team is based. The role also includes on-site time with customers for strategic engagements such as Immersion Days, Executive Briefings, Well-Architected Reviews, and AI-DLC build weeks. Travel outside of Geneva is typically 10 to 25 percent depending on customer alignment. We invest heavily in AI-assisted workflows that let us spend more time focusing on and collaborating with customers.
If you want to work with SAs who genuinely care about their customers' missions, hold themselves to a high technical standard, and treat every engagement as a chance to do meaningful work for both AWS and the international community, this is the team for you.
