Summary of the Position
The Data Engineer is a member of Sequoia Financial Group's Technology team and plays a central role in a multi-year, firm-wide platform migration initiative. This position is dedicated to building and maintaining the data infrastructure required to support the transition of one of Sequoia's core software platforms. The Data Engineer works closely with internal technology, operations, and advisory teams to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and continuity throughout the migration lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to support the firm-wide platform migration project
- Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) across source and destination systems
- Conduct data cleaning and validation to ensure accuracy and consistency of migrated data
- Develop and manage data orchestration workflows to automate and monitor pipeline execution
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Support data analysis efforts to identify gaps, anomalies, and migration readiness across datasets
- Maintain and optimize data storage and processing architecture within the Azure cloud platform
- Document data flows, pipeline logic, and transformation rules to ensure knowledge transfer and long-term maintainability
- Participate in testing and quality assurance activities as migration milestones are reached
Required Skills/Experience
- 3–6 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT processes and pipeline development
- Proficiency in data orchestration, data cleaning, data transformation, and data analysis
- Experience working within the Microsoft Azure platform
- Proficiency in Python and SQL Server
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and/or Apache Airflow
- Strong understanding of data architecture principles and best practices
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience with Databricks for large-scale data processing
- Prior experience in the financial services industry, particularly with wealth management or portfolio management platforms
- Familiarity with portfolio management systems such as Orion, Tamarac, Addepar, and/or Black Diamond
- Experience working with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and Wealth Planning software (eMoney, MoneyGuide, Holistiplan)
- Exposure to platform migration or system integration projects
