Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Cloud Solutions Architect to lead cloud computing initiatives and IT modernization efforts for a large-scale data center operations program. This role focuses on designing and architecting cloud infrastructure, driving IT transformation initiatives, and supporting enterprise-wide technology needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with architecture, delivery, and business teams, applying agile practices while operating with a high degree of independent judgment on strategic technical initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Strategic Delivery
- Lead strategic efforts supporting both project delivery and steady-state cloud operations.
- Develop architectural blueprints, network topologies, and technical specifications aligning business requirements with appropriate cloud services.
- Serve as lead cloud engineer defining, guiding, and delivering technology initiatives.
- Perform advanced systems analysis, including planning, requirements assessment, and identification of system improvements.
- Support transitions from on-premises environments to public, private, or hybrid cloud platforms.
Cross-Functional Initiative Leadership
- Drive cross-functional initiatives involving multiple systems, IT groups, and other organizational entities.
- Evaluate and present architectural options to support technology solution selection.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and integration pipelines to streamline deployments and scale resources.
- Ensure solution designs comply with applicable data security requirements, including HIPAA and organizational best practices.
- Establish and enforce security measures and manage identity and access controls.
System Design & Implementation
- Design, develop, and administer highly scalable systems across cloud-based provider services, including reporting and system integration.
- Lead and participate in solution implementation, including coordinating cross-team efforts, analyzing systems and procedures, and developing or revising code.
- Schedule, test, install, and implement systems; write or revise technical standards and procedures.
Gap Analysis & Technical Guidance
- Articulate current-state and desired-state technical solutions and identify gaps between them
- Develop approaches to close identified gaps and collaborate with IT groups on recommendations.
- Assist in preparation of IT planning and technical justification documentation.
Training & Enablement
- Oversee development of training materials for staff prior to new technology implementations.
- Conduct training for technical and program staff on new tools, technologies, or applications.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience with computer systems, IT equipment, programming languages, hardware/software, and operating systems.
- 7+ years of experience with cloud technologies and analytical services from major cloud providers.
- 7+ years of experience with cloud delivery models (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS).
- 7+ years of experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and ceremonies.
- 7+ years of experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP cloud-based services.
- 7+ years of experience with cloud-based network design principles.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance in cloud environments.
- Strong technical writing and diagramming skills (Visio, MS Office Suite, MS Project).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as a technology architect for software development, data analytics, or data warehousing projects.
- Skill in analyzing technology capabilities, limitations, and business problems to devise solutions.
- Experience with cloud DevOps principles (CI/CD), containerization, microservices, and Kubernetes deployment/scaling/maintenance.
- Experience supporting Kubernetes clusters, serverless infrastructure, and related APIs.
- Experience with cloud automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager).
- Experience with cloud/performance monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Sysdig Secure, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, GCP Cloud Operations, Azure Monitor).
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (Bash, Korn, PowerShell, Cloud CLI, Kubernetes Helm).
- Experience with declarative/imperative languages (YAML, JSON, Ruby, HCL) and IaC tools (Ansible, Docker, Terraform).
- Ability to manage multiple overlapping deadlines and cross-agency projects.
- Ability to coordinate multiple assignments, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to lead and direct team members.
- Ability to lead development of best practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience across the core technical areas listed above (systems, cloud technologies, delivery models, cloud providers, network design, IaC).
- 8+ years of experience architecting, engineering, or developing enterprise IT solutions in cloud and hybrid environments.
- Experience with cloud database services (relational/NoSQL, SQL/Oracle), data lakes, and ETL/ELT best practices for structured and unstructured data.
- Knowledge of AI services and configuration available from major cloud providers.
- Knowledge of data pipelines, ETL processes, and big data frameworks.
