Summary

The Project Manager II plays a critical role in driving the successful execution of strategic initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering projects on time, within scope, and on budget. The Project Manager II collaborates with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, manage timelines, mitigate risks, and ensure stakeholder alignment. While primarily leading medium-scale projects, they also contribute to larger, more complex initiatives under the guidance of senior project managers. This role requires strong communication skills, a solid understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), and have proficiency in project management tools.

Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Healthcare Management, Management Information Systems, or similar degree.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • PMP or similar level certification

Work Experience Required:

  • 4+ years of project management experience with increasing responsibility and project complexity, preferably within a professional services and/or healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Education, Licenses, Certifications, Experience, etc.:

  • Masters degree in relevant field
  • Healthcare experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced understanding of project management principles and terminology as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI), including scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects with moderate complexity and ambiguity, including those requiring new project structures or frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), with the ability to select and tailor approaches based on project needs.
  • Skilled in using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, ClickUp, or similar platforms to manage timelines, resources, and communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, including executives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying risks, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and delivering results with minimal oversight.
  • Experience working in matrixed or cross-functional environments, with a demonstrated ability to build consensus and foster collaboration.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and change, with a track record of delivering structured solutions in dynamic environments.
  • High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams, facilitate meetings, and manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
  • This role involves interaction and collaboration with other departments and requires excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Execution:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of moderate-complexity projects across multiple functional areas, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies for moderate-complexity projects.
  • Manage moderate-complexity projects that either require a new project structure or those with an existing project plan structure but with a higher level of complexity or ambiguity, ensuring clarity and alignment from initiation through closure.
  • Drive accountability across project teams, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables are completed to quality standards for moderate-complexity projects.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for moderate-complexity projects between project teams, business units, and executive stakeholders, ensuring consistent communication and alignment.
  • Facilitate project meetings, status updates, and decision-making sessions, adapting communication style to suit technical and non-technical audiences, for moderate-complexity projects.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and resolve conflicts or concerns with diplomacy and professionalism for moderate-complexity projects.

Risk and Issue Management:

  • Proactively identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on timelines and outcomes for moderate-complexity projects.
  • Lead issue resolution efforts, engaging appropriate resources and escalating when necessary to ensure timely and effective solutions for moderate-complexity projects.

Process Improvement and Mentorship:

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of PMO processes, tools, and templates to improve project delivery and team efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to Project Manager I team members, sharing best practices and supporting their development.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including charters, requirements, plans, and status reports for moderate-complexity projects.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), project health metrics, and outcomes to leadership and stakeholders for moderate-complexity projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Office Environment: Tasks may be conducted within a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Physical Activity: The role may require the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, supplies, and equipment (up to 10-25 lbs.) Duties typically involve a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, with frequent changes in position.
  • Travel: Travel may be required, including travel between Company locations and out-of-town destinations as needed.
  • Safety Equipment: May require the use of safety equipment for infection prevention.
