What is the Opportunity?
We're looking for a Jr QA Analyst to join our QA team. This is a hands-on testing role where you'll help make sure features work as intended before they reach thousands of retail stores.
You'll spend most of your time on manual, functional, regression, and exploratory testing across our web application and APIs. You'll validate tickets, investigate bugs, verify fixes, support releases, and work closely with developers, product managers, and designers throughout the development cycle.
You'll also get exposure to test automation using Playwright and TypeScript. We're not expecting you to be an automation expert when you join. We're looking for someone who has some exposure to an automation framework, is comfortable learning new technical skills, and is interested in growing their automation experience over time.
This is a great role for someone who has a solid foundation in QA and wants to become a more technically well-rounded QA professional.
We're building a cloud-native SaaS business that lives in AWS. We build modern applications using TypeScript and Python. We run Docker containers deployed to Kubernetes. We have an automated CI/CD pipeline built using GitHub Actions. Our infrastructure is managed with Terraform and Argo CD.
Our preferred automation tooling includes TypeScript, Playwright, zod, dayjs, and lodash.
You will be able to:
Manual & Functional Testing
- Perform functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing across our web application and APIs.
- Create clear, reusable test cases and test plans based on requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Validate tickets and acceptance criteria before they move to done, identifying gaps or potential issues early.
- Investigate and reproduce reported bugs and document defects with clear steps, expected results, actual results, and supporting information.
- Verify bug fixes and perform regression testing to ensure changes don't introduce new issues.
- Support release verification and post-deployment smoke testing.
- Think beyond the happy path and ask, "What happens if…?"
- Use SQL to set up, investigate, and validate test data.
Test Automation
- Gain hands-on experience with our automated test suite using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Contribute to maintaining and expanding automated end-to-end and integration test coverage.
- Identify manual regression scenarios that could benefit from automation.
- Learn to investigate automated test failures and distinguish between product defects, test issues, and environmental problems.
- Follow established automation patterns and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop.
Collaboration
- Work directly with developers, product managers, and designers throughout the development cycle.
- Communicate testing status, risks, blockers, and potential quality concerns clearly and early.
- Participate in QA discussions and contribute ideas for improving our testing processes.
- Collaborate with other QA team members to share knowledge, testing techniques, and automation practices.
What You Need to Succeed?
- 2+ years of hands-on software QA experience, ideally in a product or SaaS environment.
- A solid understanding of manual testing fundamentals, including test case design, regression testing, exploratory testing, and defect reporting.
- Some exposure to a test automation framework such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or a similar tool. You don't need to be an automation expert — we're looking for a willingness and ability to learn.
- Basic familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, or another programming language is an asset. You should be comfortable learning to read and understand existing test code.
- Experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Insomnia, or a similar tool.
- Basic SQL skills and an understanding of how to use queries to set up or validate test data.
- Familiarity with Git and basic branching/version-control concepts.
- Experience working in a ticket-driven development process such as Jira or an equivalent tool.
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity about how things work.
- A willingness to ask questions, investigate problems, and learn from others.
Nice-to-Have
You don't need experience in all of these. They're areas you may have an opportunity to learn more about here:
- Experience with Playwright and/or TypeScript.
- Experience with test management tools such as TestRail
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI
- Familiarity with AWS or cloud-based applications.
- Exposure to Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience testing APIs, integrations, messaging systems, or data pipelines.
- Experience with performance or accessibility testing.
- ISTQB certification or similar.
Why Join Us?
- Join a start-up environment where you will help shape what we build and how we build it.
- Work alongside an experienced and supportive QA, Engineering, Product, and DevOps team.
- Be empowered to learn and take ownership as you grow.
- Gain hands-on exposure to modern QA and engineering practices.
- We have been remote-first since 2020, and we're great at it!
- You can also pop into our Toronto office when you want some in-person interaction.
