Overview

The Senior Analyst, FP&A – Recurring Revenue is a key member of the FP&A team supporting the recurring revenue business. This role owns the financial analysis behind recurring revenue performance and translates data into forecasts and insights that guide commercial and executive decisions.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, analytically sharp finance professional who understands how recurring revenue businesses operate, is comfortable working with data, and communicates clearly with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and senior finance leadership. The role combines financial judgment with strong technical capabilities, including the use of modern tools and AI to improve efficiency and accuracy while critically validating results.

Responsibilities

Month End Recurring Revenue Performance and Reporting

  • Build and maintain monthly and quarterly reporting and forecasting on recurring revenue for metrics and KPIs, churn rates, discounting, seasonality, economic factors, and other relevant factors.
  • Analyze recurring revenue movements and explain variances to plan, forecast, and prior periods with clear commentary.
  • Reconcile recurring revenue and bookings data to billings, deferred revenue, and recognized revenue in partnership with Accounting and Revenue Operations.
  • Produce executive-ready dashboards and reporting packages that highlight trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure all reporting ties out across source systems, including CRM bookings, billing, the general ledger, and planning tools, and resolve or escalate any differences before results are published.

Forecasting Budgeting and Long Range Planning

  • Partner with stakeholders and own the annual bottom-up revenue forecast for assigned products or segments, driven by pipeline, renewal schedules, contracted backlog, and historical retention behavior.
  • Support the annual operating plan and quarterly reforecast cycles, including driver-based models for new business, renewals, expansion, churn, costs, and capex.
  • Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses (for example, churn, pricing, or sales capacity assumptions) to quantify the range of potential outcomes.
  • Produce bi-weekly P&L reviews with clear commentary on drivers, risks, and opportunities for assigned business units or cost centers.
  • Track forecast accuracy and continuously refine assumptions and methodology.

Revenue Operations and Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Revenue Operations, Accounting, and Billing to ensure consistent metric definitions, clean source data, and alignment across bookings, billings, and revenue.
  • Understand revenue recognition fundamentals (ASC 606) and their relationship to contract structure, billing terms, and reported results.

Process Improvement and Data Integrity

  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate recurring reports and models and reduce manual effort.
  • Maintain documentation of metric definitions, model logic, and reporting processes to ensure consistency and auditability.
  • Champion data quality across CRM, billing, and planning systems, flagging and resolving discrepancies proactively.

AI & Technical Skills

This role blends financial judgment with strong technical capability. We expect the Senior Analyst to use modern tools, including AI, to work faster and more accurately, while applying the critical thinking needed to validate results.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel, including dynamic arrays, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, and well-structured, auditable model design.
  • SQL proficiency to query, join, and validate data from data warehouses, CRM, and billing systems without heavy reliance on other teams.
  • Experience building dashboards and self-service reporting in Power BI or Tableau.
  • Working knowledge of Python or R for data analysis and automation is a plus.
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts, such as customer and contract hierarchies, and of how recurring revenue data flows from CRM through billing to the general ledger.

AI & Automation

  • Use generative AI tools (such as Claude, Chat GPT, or Copilot) to accelerate analysis, draft variance commentary, summarize contracts and data, and generate or debug formulas, SQL, and scripts.
  • Identify and build automation opportunities, using AI-assisted workflows, scripting, or low-code tools to reduce manual reporting and reconciliation work.
  • Apply sound judgment to AI output: verify results against source data, document assumptions, and never rely on unvalidated output in executive or external reporting.
  • Follow company policies on data security, confidentiality, and responsible AI use, including appropriate handling of customer and financial data.
  • Stay current on emerging AI capabilities in FP&A and share practical use cases and best practices with the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or CPA a plus.
  • 4–7 years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or a related analytical role, preferably within a SaaS, subscription, or other recurring revenue business.
  • Strong working knowledge of subscription metrics and concepts, including ARR, churn, bookings vs. billings vs. revenue, and growth dynamics.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills in Excel, with demonstrated experience building driver-based forecasts and scenario analyses.
  • Proficiency with SQL and a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Working understanding of revenue recognition (ASC 606) and deferred revenue concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, concise insights for non-finance audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative, curious, and proactive, with a bias toward ownership and follow-through.
  • Presence in-office at least 4 days per week.
