About the role

NSW Public Works (PW) is part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and supports local and state government agencies to deliver critical infrastructure initiatives by providing expert advisory, planning, design, delivery and support services.

We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager to plan and deliver a diverse portfolio of civil and community infrastructure projects across the Hunter North West Region. This includes water and wastewater infrastructure projects; bridges and road projects; and public assets critical to regional growth.

You’ll lead projects end-to-end—planning, procurement, contract management and delivery, while acting as a trusted advisor to clients. The role also involves leading procurement and contracts; and supporting a high-performing team environment.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a proven ability to deliver projects in environments where clear communication, good judgement and strong stakeholder engagement are essential.

You will bring:

• A background in engineering, construction, or major infrastructure project management

• Experience managing multiple projects with defined time, cost and quality outcomes

• Knowledge of contract administration, procurement, and delivery risk management

• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage diverse client groups and community stakeholders

• A commitment to professional integrity, teamwork, and strong work ethic

• Relevant trade, post‑trade or tertiary qualifications (engineering preferred; construction/project management considered)

• Demonstrated experience in civil, water, wastewater or similar infrastructure

• A valid NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel to project sites across the region (including occasional overnight stays)

Travel Requirements for the Role

A significant proportion of the region’s current and future project workload is based in Western NSW. As a result, regular travel is an essential requirement of this role to support project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and client relationship management across the region. Applicants must be willing and able to travel frequently, including to regional and remote locations within Western NSW. Travel is expected to be undertaken using the most efficient and practical mode of transport, which will generally be by motor vehicle given the location of project sites and stakeholder needs across the region.
