About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator / Database Engineer to own and

manage our data infrastructure across PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch. The

ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing reader/writer (primary-replica) architectures

under high data loads, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical

databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Administration: Install, configure, administer, monitor, and upgrade production

databases across PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch.

  • Query Development & Optimization: Write complex PostgreSQL/MySQL queries and

optimize existing ones for performance at scale.

  • Database Design: Design and optimize PostgreSQL/MySQL schemas for scalability and

maintainability.

  • Indexing & Query Analysis: Define indexing strategies and analyze execution plans

(EXPLAIN/ANALYZE) to resolve slow queries.

  • Performance Tuning: Tune query performance, buffer/cache settings, and connection

pooling (PgBouncer/ProxySQL) for high-QPS workloads.

  • Partitioning & Archiving: Implement table partitioning and data archiving strategies for

large, fast-growing datasets.

  • ETL & Data Migration: Plan and execute ETL and data migration for PostgreSQL/MySQL,

including source-to-target database/table schema mapping.

  • Replication & High Availability: Design, configure, and manage reader/writer (primary-

replica) replication; monitor replication lag and troubleshoot failures; ensure HA and

failover using Patroni, Orchestrator, or managed cloud equivalents (AWS RDS/Aurora,

Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL).

  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Implement and test PostgreSQL/MySQL backup and restore

(pg_dump, pgBackRest, Percona XtraBackup, snapshots), point-in-time recovery, and

cross-region DR strategies.

  • ClickHouse & Elasticsearch: Manage ClickHouse clusters (MergeTree family, sharding,

replication, materialized views) and Elasticsearch clusters (ILM, shard allocation, mapping

design, cluster health under heavy load).

  • Monitoring & Capacity Planning: Monitor database health and replication using

Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat_statements, and Percona tools; handle capacity planning,

storage forecasting, and scaling.

  • Connection Management: Manage PostgreSQL/MySQL connection pooling and proxy

layers (PgBouncer, ProxySQL, HAProxy).

  • Cloud Administration: Administer PostgreSQL/MySQL on AWS (RDS/Aurora) and Azure

(Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL Flexible Server) — provisioning, read replicas, HA,

scaling, backups, and monitoring.

  • Security: Enforce database security — access control, encryption, and audit logging.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve production database issues quickly, including

during on-call rotations.

  • Large-Scale Data Handling: Efficiently manage and query large datasets (hundreds of GBs

to TBs).

  • Scripting & Automation: Use Python and/or Shell scripting to automate administration,

monitoring, and operational tasks.

  • Collaboration: Support schema migrations and collaborate with development teams on

data modeling.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience as a DBA/Database Engineer in production

environments.

  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL installation, configuration, upgrades, and

administration.

  • Ability to write and optimize complex PostgreSQL/MySQL queries.
  • Strong database design and schema optimization skills.
  • Proficiency in indexing strategy and execution plan analysis.
  • Proven performance tuning experience (query, buffer/cache, connection-level).
  • Hands-on experience with partitioning and archiving strategies.
  • Experience with ETL and data migration, including schema mapping between source and

target systems.

  • Proven experience managing reader/writer split (primary-replica) architectures with high

throughput.

  • Working experience with ClickHouse (cluster setup, ingestion at scale, query optimization)

and Elasticsearch (cluster management, indexing pipelines, search tuning).

  • Hands-on PostgreSQL/MySQL backup & restore experience (pg_dump, pgBackRest,

Percona XtraBackup, snapshots).

  • Hands-on administration of PostgreSQL/MySQL on AWS and/or Azure managed database

services.

  • Experience monitoring database health and replication using Prometheus, Grafana,

ELK/EFK.

  • Strong understanding of connection management and pooling (PgBouncer, ProxySQL,

HAProxy).

  • Demonstrated production troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience handling large datasets efficiently (hundreds of GBs to TBs, high-QPS

workloads).

  • Proficiency in Linux administration and shell scripting; Python scripting required.

Good to Have

  • Experience with GCP Cloud SQL or self-managed databases on EC2/GCE/Azure VMs.
  • Exposure to Kafka or other streaming pipelines feeding ClickHouse/Elasticsearch.
  • Knowledge of Redis or other caching layers.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and containerized databases

(Docker, Kubernetes operators).

  • Understanding of data warehousing and OLAP vs OLTP workload separation.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-load data systems powering enterprise-grade

products.

  • Health insurance, flexible working hours, and a dedicated learning & development budget.
