Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems–International is seeking a IT Project Manager to lead a varied portfolio of initiatives across infrastructure, systems, and software within the Digital and Information Technology function. This is a delivery role for a versatile practitioner who can move comfortably between project types, hold complex work together, and keep stakeholders informed and aligned from start to finish.
The role calls for judgement as much as method. The successful candidate will apply project management discipline in proportion to the risk, size, and complexity of each initiative, favoring clarity, momentum, and outcomes over ceremony and process for its own sake. This is not a role for rigid methodology but for a pragmatic project manager who knows the fundamentals and how these apply in the pursuit of a lean, efficient and right-sized project structure without introducing unnecessary overhead.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Plan and deliver IT projects end to end across infrastructure, systems, and software, from initiation through to closure and handover.
- Own scope, schedule, budget, dependencies, and resourcing, and keep each initiative moving to agreed outcomes.
- Coordinate delivery across internal technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors.
- Maintain clear visibility of status, risks, and decisions, and drive timely resolution of blockers.
Right-Sized Delivery and Governance
- Select and tailor the delivery approach, whether predictive, agile, or hybrid, to fit the nature of each initiative.
- Apply governance and documentation in proportion to risk and complexity, keeping artefacts lean, current, and genuinely useful.
- Favour momentum, clarity, and decisions over ceremony, and remove process that does not earn its place.
- Bring structure and discipline where it matters most, particularly change control within regulated environments.
Stakeholder Management and Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for each initiative, managing expectations across technical, business, and executive audiences.
- Communicate status, risk, and trade-offs clearly and honestly, and escalate early when it counts.
- Translate between technical detail and business outcomes so that every audience has what it needs to decide.
- Build trust and alignment across teams, and keep working relationships productive under delivery pressure.
Risk, Financials, and Vendors
- Manage risks and issues actively, with clear ownership and realistic mitigation.
- Track budgets and forecasts and keep spend and value visible to sponsors.
- Manage vendor and third-party delivery against commitments, and coordinate with procurement where required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of seven years managing IT projects, with a track record spanning infrastructure, systems, and software delivery.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to hold the confidence of technical teams and executives alike.
- Demonstrated pragmatism: a right-sized, fit-for-purpose approach to delivery, with sound command of project management fundamentals and the judgement to apply them proportionately.
- Fluency across predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery methods, and the discernment to choose well.
- Strong command of budgeting, risk management, and vendor and third-party delivery.
- Experience delivering within a regulated environment, with an understanding of where disciplined change control genuinely matters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a defence, government, or critical-infrastructure environment subject to controlled-goods or equivalent handling requirements.
- Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models
- A project management certification such as PMP, and agile credentials such as PSM or SAFe, valued as evidence of grounding rather than as a substitute for delivery judgement.
- Experience managing a mixed portfolio of infrastructure and software initiatives concurrently.
- Experience supporting multi-jurisdiction delivery
