Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a JAVA UI Developer at Barclays where you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting critical business applications. You will work in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative solutions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure applications meet the highest standards of security, resilience, and operational excellence.

To be successful as a  JAVA UI Developer , you should have experience with:

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
  • Develop scalable microservices and backend components supporting business-critical workflows.
  • Build and optimize SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, functions, and performance tuning solutions.
  • Support application integrations with Kafka, middleware services, APIs, and external systems.
  • Participate in application architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with BCP, operational resilience, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Infrastructure teams, and DevOps teams throughout the SDLC.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolution of production issues.
  • Implement automated testing, CI/CD deployment pipelines, and release management processes.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, support runbooks, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Support audit, risk, and control activities related to application development and infrastructure.
  • Ensure applications align with Business Continuity Planning (BCP) requirements.
  • Support disaster recovery testing and resilience assessments.
  • Maintain application recoverability documentation.
  • Participate in resilience reviews and continuity exercises.
  • Ensure infrastructure dependencies and recovery procedures are documented and tested.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  •  Experience working in Financial Services, Risk, Compliance, or Regulatory Technology environments.
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and application security controls.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, and Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes/OpenShift is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to work independently and within Agile teams.
