Position Summary

The Plant Engineering Manager plans, manages, and coordinates the activities of the plant engineering department, facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Part of the recruitment and selection process for all hourly open positions. Coordinates new staff on boarding in the department.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Plant Engineering with constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • In collaboration with HR, this position handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other manufacturing managers and leadership to set and assess priorities across teams.
  • Assists in the assessment of cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; implements recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Supervises maintenance operations, ensuring all work is performed accurately and according to quality and safety standards.
  • Manages equipment preventive maintenance program. Ensures that employees within the maintenance department are effectively utilizing a preventive maintenance system.
  • Assists in the coordination of all outside contractors on jobs in plant. Monitors the performance of all outside contractors with respect to time, scope, cost, and compliance with GMP’s and quality assurance.
  • Troubleshooting complex industrial systems.
  • Management of parts inventory and purchasing needs. Monitors inventory to ensure accuracy.
  • Works closely with QA and regulatory agencies for plant inspections.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Plant Engineering and/or other appropriate leadership with programs, activities, and responsibilities of the maintenance department.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Safety:

  • Function as a champion of Safety in the bakery, demonstrating and reinforcing its critical importance at every opportunity.
  • Work with HR and Safety Manager to coordinate and document required trainings.
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and near misses.
  • Cooperate with the established Return-To-Work policies for Worker’s Compensation related to injuries.
  • Monitor GMP and Food Safety rule compliance, address issues promptly and document.

Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 8 years of experience in the manufacturing engineering field, required. A minimum of 3 years of food manufacturing experience is required.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Prior experience managing teams of hourly technicians (minimum 8).
  • Thorough understanding of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare budgets and records.
  • Able to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
  • Maintain regular, consistent attendance & punctuality. Must have a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to communicate clearly with others while maintaining a positive working environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • In this position there is frequent walking, standing, and bending.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • There is exposure to extreme temperatures (cold and hot).
  • There is exposure to dust and food allergens.
  • Lifting 50 pounds frequently. All Lifts over 50 Pounds require assisted lifting.
  • All machines are equipped with Protective guards. All safety protocols must be followed.

Location: Louisville

Compensation Range: $95,000 to $125,000

Compensation is based on the level of experience, other relevant experience, and requirements of the position. The range provided serves only as a guideline and does not automatically qualify all candidates (internal or external) for the high end of the range.
