Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to join its national Digital Solutions Team. This individual will play a crucial role in designing and implementing systems that support both current and future Enterprise GIS environments, spanning on-premises ArcGIS Enterprise deployments and the Azure and AWS infrastructure that hosts them, and will serve as a senior technical lead for Langan's managed cloud services clients. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be part of a growing and fast-paced technology team that works on Esri ArcGIS Enterprise deployments across on-premises, Azure, and AWS cloud environments for both internal and customer projects. You will also help grow the practice by shaping service offerings, scoping and estimating new work, and acting as the senior technical point of contact for clients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Langan’s geospatial, network and development teams to architect ArcGIS Enterprise environments, and the Azure and AWS infrastructure that hosts them, for both internal and external clients;
  • Lead ArcGIS Enterprise installation, configuration, maintenance and support, and mentor engineers performing this work;
  • Own reference architectures and design standards that apply computing, networking, security, and cloud concepts to Enterprise GIS system design;
  • Understand and apply Esri licensing and server roles;
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues in existing server environments;
  • Plan, develop, test, and document disaster recovery, redundancy, and backup activities for Enterprise GIS and managed cloud environments;
  • Design logging, monitoring, and alerting thresholds for infrastructure and services supporting ArcGIS Enterprise and its dependencies;
  • Define identity and access management for cloud resources where required;
  • Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for infrastructure and application deployments;
  • Develop and maintain scripts and Infrastructure as Code to automate resource provisioning, application installation, configuration, and administration;
  • Write comprehensive documentation on system implementations and changes;
  • Manage and apply updates to services and systems;
  • Assist with third party integrations as per project requirements;
  • Serve as the senior technical point of contact for managed cloud services clients, leading design reviews, roadmap discussions, and escalations;
  • Scope, estimate, and schedule Enterprise GIS and cloud engagements, and manage delivery against budget and milestones;
  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, statements of work, and client presentations, and by identifying opportunities to expand existing accounts;
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies, cloud & systems engineering; and,
  • Respond to incidents by helping with recovery, mitigation, and root cause analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or other related discipline is required (Master's degree a plus);
  • Cloud architecture certifications (e.g., Azure AZ-305 Solutions Architect Expert, AZ-104 Administrator Associate, or AWS Solutions Architect) are a plus;
  • 8+ years of real-world experience designing, executing, and supporting Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, including 3+ years architecting cloud-hosted deployments;
  • Experience identifying and resolving complex technical issues;
  • Experience in a client-facing consulting or managed services environment, including leading design discussions and managing client expectations;
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, and budget across concurrent engagements;
  • Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing the technical work of others;
  • Experience contributing to proposals, estimates, and statements of work;
  • Self-motivated learner who continually keeps up to date with new technology;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Ability to work efficiently and produce accurate and thorough work; and

  • Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS Enterprise 11.x;
  • Demonstrated experience architecting, deploying, and operating production cloud solutions on Azure or AWS;
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows Server 2016+;
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts: IP, DNS, firewall rules, vNets/VPCs, etc;
  • Understand the key capabilities of Esri ArcGIS platforms, applications, and APIs;
  • Differentiate between ArcGIS Enterprise deployment patterns;
  • Familiarity with Shell/CLIs such as Bash or PowerShell;
  • Experience working with security concepts such as Role-Based Access Control, SSL, authentication and authorization, etc;
  • Experience with identity and access management concepts, including Microsoft Entra ID, SSO, and conditional access;
  • Experience using Git for version control of scripts, IaC, and configuration;
  • Ability to present technical designs and trade-offs to clients and non-technical stakeholders; and
  • Proactive and comprehensive troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or cloud databases is a plus;
  • Scripting in languages such as Python, PowerShell, or SQL is a plus;
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Azure Bicep, or AWS CloudFormation is a plus;
  • Experience working with containerization; Docker or Kubernetes is a plus;
  • Experience with web servers such as IIS is a plus;
  • Experience with Linux (Debian/RHEL) is a plus;
  • Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for observability is a plus;
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or comparable CI/CD platforms is a plus; and
  • Experience delivering managed services or hosted environments under an SLA is a plus.
