Staff Product Designer (Platform)
Redefining Product Design at System Scale
At Omnicell, we’re redefining medication management through a unified cloud platform that spans devices, applications, and AI-powered intelligence.
We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to operate at the platform level—someone who doesn’t just design features, but shapes the system, sets direction, and drives outcomes across an entire product ecosystem. This is a role for a designer who leads through vision, prototypes the future, and aligns cross-functional teams around a unified experience.
What This Role Is
This is not a feature-level design role.
You will:
- Own experience strategy across a platform or major product surface, not just individual workflows
- Define north star vision and design principles that guide multiple teams
- Use interactive, code-backed prototypes as the primary vehicle for strategy, alignment, and delivery
- Operate as a force multiplier, elevating the quality and impact of multiple designers and teams
You will collapse the distance between idea and execution, turning ambiguity into direction, and direction into shipped outcomes.
Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Systems Thinking
- Define and drive end-to-end experience strategy across a platform or large product ecosystem
- Establish north star visions, experience principles, and interaction models that scale across teams
- Architect cross-product journeys, workflows, and information architecture, ensuring consistency and coherence
- Identify opportunities to unify fragmented experiences into a single, opinionated platform experience
Design Leadership & Direction Setting
- Lead design for ambiguous, high-impact problem spaces where no clear solution exists
- Translate company strategy into clear design direction and roadmaps
- Set the bar for design quality through hands-on prototyping and system-level thinking
- Drive alignment across Product, Engineering, and executive stakeholders
Advanced Prototyping & AI-Native Design
- Use prototypes as the primary tool for strategy, validation, and communication
- Push boundaries with AI-assisted design, adaptive interfaces, and intelligent workflows
- Explore and define new interaction paradigms (AI copilots, automation, predictive UX)
- Guide teams on when and how to leverage Figma Make, code-based prototyping, and AI tools
(Elevates senior expectation of delivering prototypes into setting how prototypes are used org-wide)
Cross-Team Influence & Organizational Impact
- Lead multi-team initiatives that span products, services, and customer journeys
- Influence decisions at the director, VP, and cross-functional leadership level
- Resolve conflicting priorities and drive cohesive platform decisions
- Act as a connector across teams, ensuring consistency without slowing velocity
Customer & Domain Leadership
- Frame complex problem spaces through systems-level customer understanding
- Guide research direction and synthesize insights into strategic opportunities
- Ensure solutions drive measurable outcomes (adoption, efficiency, safety, revenue impact)
- Bring a service design mindset to multi-step, real-world workflows
Design System & Platform Governance
- Shape and evolve the design system, patterns, and interaction models as a platform asset
- Drive adoption and governance of shared components, tokens, and UX standards
- Establish mechanisms for consistency at scale without blocking innovation
Mentorship & Team Leadership
- Mentor senior designers and elevate overall team capability
- Provide directional critique, not just tactical feedback
- Define and reinforce design culture, standards, and ways of working
- Serve as a thought leader for modern product design practices (AI, prototyping-first, systems thinking)
What You Bring
Experience
- 8+ years in product design, with significant experience on platforms, ecosystems, or multi-product systems
- Demonstrated ownership of large, ambiguous initiatives with measurable business impact
- Experience influencing multiple teams or product areas simultaneously
Strategic & Systems Thinking
- Proven ability to define experience strategy, IA, and system-level design frameworks
- Track record of driving cross-product consistency and platform unification
- Ability to connect user needs, business strategy, and technical constraints into clear direction
Execution Excellence
A portfolio showcasing:
- Platform-level thinking, not just features
- End-to-end journeys across systems
- Prototypes as deliverables, not static design artifacts
- Clear linkage to business and user outcomes
AI & Modern Design Workflow
- Deep experience integrating AI into product design workflows
- Comfort with code-backed prototyping tools (e.g., Figma Make, Claude Code, Builder.io, Lovable, or equivalent)
- Ability to critically evaluate and guide AI-generated outputs at scale
Leadership & Influence
- Demonstrated ability to lead without authority, influencing senior stakeholders
- Strong storytelling and communication skills, able to align executives and cross-functional teams
- Experience mentoring other designers and raising team standards
Bonus (High Signal in SV Market)
- Experience designing enterprise SaaS platforms or regulated environments (e.g., healthcare)
- Background in service design, operations, or systems design
- Experience shaping design organizations, governance models, or design systems at scale
What Success Looks Like
- Teams operate from a shared platform vision, not fragmented design decisions
- Prototypes drive alignment and execution across Product & Engineering
- Users experience a cohesive, intuitive system, not disconnected tools
- Design becomes a strategic driver of business outcomes, not a downstream function
