About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Information & Digital team and play a key role in delivering BaptistCare's data transformation strategy.
Reporting to the Head of Data Platform & Engineering, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines, data models, Lakehouse solutions and cloud-based data platforms that support enterprise reporting, advanced analytics and business decision-making across the organisation.
Working with enterprise applications, APIs, databases, legacy systems and file-based sources, you will help ensure trusted, high-quality data is available to support strategic and operational decision-making. You'll collaborate closely with BI Analysts, Data Scientists, business stakeholders, architects, technology teams and external vendors/partners to understand requirements, participate in solution design workshops, build reliable data assets and modernise BaptistCare's data ecosystem.
The role will take end-to-end ownership of data engineering solutions from requirements gathering and design through development, deployment, production support and continuous optimisation, while ensuring data quality, governance, security and operational reliability.
About You
- Undergraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline
- Minimum 6+ years' experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing or Business Intelligence roles
- Experience developing ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Azure Synapse and dbt
- Strong SQL development, data modelling and data warehousing experience, including experience with large and complex datasets
- Experience implementing Lakehouse solutions, Medallion Architecture and enterprise data models
- Experience migrating data from legacy systems and databases to Snowflake, with a strong focus on data quality and integrity
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and end-to-end solution ownership capabilities, including troubleshooting production data pipelines
- Strong stakeholder communication skills and experience translating business requirements into technical solutions and participating in solution design workshops
- Experience using Azure DevOps/Azure Repos for source control, CI/CD and Agile delivery, with a commitment to engineering standards, documentation and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes while working in a manner consistent with BaptistCare's Christian identity and organisational values
Highly Regarded
- Experience with Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, Microsoft Fabric or similar cloud data platforms
- Experience with dbt, including modular data modelling, testing, documentation and engineering best practices
- Experience with Python and/or other data engineering tools
- Experience with Azure Synapse and modern Azure data services
- Experience developing dimensional data models, semantic layers and curated data products
- Experience with MuleSoft Integration Platform
- Microsoft Azure, Snowflake and/or dbt certifications
- Experience working with healthcare, aged care or community services systems
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, security and data management practices
- Experience working within highly regulated environments
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable ELT pipelines and data integration solutions using Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Azure Data Lake and related technologies
- Ingest and integrate data from enterprise applications, APIs, databases, legacy systems and file-based sources, including migration from on-premises environments
- Build and optimise modern Lakehouse solutions using Medallion Architecture to deliver trusted, reusable and analytics-ready data assets
- Develop and maintain dbt models, dimensional data models, semantic layers and curated data products aligned with business requirements and enterprise standards
- Perform data profiling, cleansing, validation and reconciliation, and implement testing and monitoring to ensure data quality, integrity and reliability
- Take end-to-end ownership of data engineering solutions from requirements gathering and solution design through development, deployment, production support and continuous optimisation
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and platform issues, while optimising Snowflake performance, storage utilisation, query efficiency and overall platform reliability
- Apply data governance, security, metadata management, data lineage and documentation practices to ensure trusted, compliant and well-managed enterprise data
- Collaborate with BI Analysts, Data Scientists, business stakeholders, architects and technical teams to deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions and support Agile sprint commitments
- Utilise Azure DevOps and Azure Repos for source control, CI/CD and release management, while contributing to engineering standards, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
