Projects typically range around $15M–$20M and include multifamily developments, industrial facilities, office buildings, retail projects, healthcare facilities, schools, churches, warehouses, and other commercial construction.

The ideal candidate has a strong background with a commercial general contractor or construction management firm and a proven track record of independently managing complex projects of similar size. This role requires an experienced construction leader who can manage multiple priorities, develop strong client relationships, lead project teams, and maintain accountability for successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, procurement plans, and execution strategies.
  • Maintain responsibility for project financial performance, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, submittals, and other construction documents.
  • Negotiate and administer subcontract agreements, purchase orders, change orders, and vendor commitments.
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, billing, and profitability while identifying and addressing potential risks.
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents and field leadership to maintain schedules, resolve construction issues, and support field execution.
  • Oversee subcontractor and vendor performance to ensure contractual, schedule, and quality requirements are achieved.
  • Manage procurement activities and long-lead items to minimize project delays.
  • Lead project meetings and provide clear, consistent updates to clients, project stakeholders, and company leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company safety standards, quality expectations, and applicable building codes.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, schedules, financial reports, meeting records, and client communications.
  • Mentor Project Managers and Project Engineers while promoting accountability, collaboration, and strong project management practices.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years of commercial or multifamily construction project management experience preferred.
  • Candidates with 5–6+ years of experience may be considered if they have successfully managed large, complex commercial projects.
  • Experience working for a commercial general contractor or construction management firm is required.
  • Proven experience independently managing commercial or multifamily construction projects valued at approximately $15M or greater.
  • Experience managing projects from preconstruction and procurement through construction and final closeout.
  • Background in multifamily, industrial, office, retail, healthcare, education, warehouse, institutional, or similar commercial construction is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, cost forecasting, procurement, contracts, and change order management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project financials and maintain budget and profitability targets.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documentation.
  • Strong subcontractor management, negotiation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to develop strong relationships with clients and project partners.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, teams, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with construction project management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Local Memphis-area candidates are strongly preferred.
  • Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to single-family residential construction or smaller-scale projects will not be considered.
  • Successful candidates must complete professional reference checks and a pre-employment drug screening.
