Full description

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly, cost reduction initiatives, processing of engineering changes, and introduction of new products. Also provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, technicians and operations support staff. Develops high level strategic project plans, executes capital projects and performs significant activities requiring multi-functional teams.

Position Responsibilities may include:

  • Establish continuous improvement goals and executes action plans
  • Lead, train and mentor manufacturing engineering personnel in ISO 9000 systems and Lean manufacturing.
  • Establish, plan and direct manufacturing engineering activities and priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Utilize proven lean manufacturing abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, increased quality, work flow improvements, estimating, project analysis, technology development and core manufacturing skill set.
  • Provide direction to and mentor junior engineers, technicians and support staff
  • Support DOE, 8D, FMEA, 6 Sigma and DFP analysis and implementation of Kaizen activities
  • Work with Design Engineers to revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles; provide manufacturing technical resource to Design Project teams
  • Develop and manage project schedules related to existing product launches or design modifications.
  • Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests.
  • Assist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to launch product modifications, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
  • Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
  • Develop suppliers for manufacturing equipment, develop key suppliers, create an environment of continuous improvement in equipment UPTIME, EFFICIENCY & QUALITY
  • Create preventive maintenance that effectively maintains the equipment in optimal form without the need for short cutting the quality or machine capability
  • Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs.

Nature and Scope:

  • Provides direction and guidance to compliance team
  • Defines and implements continuous improvement opportunities for certification process
  • Works with Fabrication and Production departments & Design Engineering team to sustain residential and/or commercial HVAC-related products

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of manufacturing engineering theory, processes, and practice
  • Lean manufacturing concepts (eg, Kaizen, value stream mapping, Kanban, demand flow technology)
  • Experience with engineering change processes
  • Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry (preferred)
  • Line balancing and time studies experience
  • Strong leadership experience including influencing employee’s to be a part of continuous improvement
  • Software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Mapics and PM applications
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and strong project management –PM skills
  • Effective communication skills - both verbal and written; business acumen
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams & collaboration skills
  • Ability to apply excellent judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job

Experience:

  • 12+ years manufacturing engineering experience
  • 8+ years of experience with product design in assembly HVAC environment automotive, appliance industry
  • 8 + years in a leadership role
  • Manufacturing equipment experience in stamping, tooling, assembly and/or controls processes

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Technology – Engineering
  • Six Sigma certification preferred

Reports to:

  • Director or VP of Manufacturing Engineering

Physical Requirements / Working Environment:

  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations. High volume manufacturing environment with forklift traffic. May have higher noise volume in areas – hearing protection required.
