Flowserve is seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to manage and expand business established portfolio spanning engineered centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals, auxiliary systems, and Quick Response Center (QRC) aftermarket repair services.

As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will serve as the dedicated commercial and technical partner driving equipment reliability, upgrades, retrofits, and spare parts orders. While candidates with deep industrial pump sales experience are strongly preferred due to long-cycle capital development, candidates with proven technical sales experience in mechanical seals, steam turbines, compressors, or adjacent rotating machinery within refining, petrochemical, or

heavy industrial processing facilities are highly encouraged to apply.

You will collaborate closely with plant reliability engineers, maintenance planners, operations leadership, and Flowserve’s local Quick Response Center in Benicia, CA, translating operational challenges into engineered rotating equipment solutions. This is an autonomous, relationship-driven technical sales role with direct executive visibility, dedicated account ownership, and significant incentive earning potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Flowserve commercial and technical representative embedded at the facility.
  • Drive annual bookings and revenue targets for industrial pumps, mechanical seal systems, component parts, and QRC repair services.
  • Walk unit operations daily, partner with plant reliability and maintenance engineers, identify underperforming assets, and propose engineered retrofits or API 610/API 682 upgrades.
  • Coordinate end-to-end proposal generation with Application Engineers, Estimators, and the Benicia Quick Response Center (QRC) to ensure accurate pricing, scopes of work, and delivery timelines.
  • Support unit turnarounds, planned outages, and emergency repairs by expediting critical spare parts, seal replacements, and shop overhauls.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, quote presentations, and contract renewals while maintaining target gross margins and profitability.
  • Conduct root cause failure analyses (RCFA) in collaboration with technical specialists to resolve recurring equipment reliability issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical/business discipline.
  • 4+ years of technical sales, application engineering, field service engineering, or commercial account management experience focused on industrial rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals, compressors, or steam turbines.
  • Proven track record managing enterprise industrial plant accounts (refineries, petrochemical plants, power generation, or chemical processing).
  • Strong understanding of industrial equipment failure modes, plant operating conditions, and maintenance turnaround schedules.
  • Excellent commercial communication, contract negotiation, customer presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record (ability to walk customer sites, inspect plant units, and travel locally across the Bay Area).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct sales or application background specifically in API 610 centrifugal pumps or API 682 mechanical seals and seal support systems.
  • Prior experience managing or navigating Tier-1 downstream oil & gas refiner accounts
