Full description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Function Owner with a strong background in Electrical & Electronics (E/E), Embedded Software, vehicle functions, Functional Safety and Cybersecurity.

This is a senior technical leadership role where you will take ownership of vehicle End User Functions (EuF) throughout the complete development lifecycle—from feature and system requirements through functional decomposition, safety analysis, integration, verification and issue resolution.

You will work in a global automotive development environment and collaborate closely with system architects, function owners, software teams, verification engineers, Functional Safety specialists, Cybersecurity specialists and other cross-functional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of assigned End User Functions (EuF) and related use cases.
  • Drive global function ownership, including functional strategy, commonality and reuse across vehicle variants, products and markets.
  • Develop, manage and maintain End User Function requirements throughout the complete function lifecycle.
  • Break down vehicle/feature requirements into clear and testable functional requirements.
  • Review and align requirements with architects, system teams, software teams, verification teams and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure functions are correctly integrated, tested and verified end-to-end in rigs and vehicles.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of functional issues originating from development projects, production, testing or field/customer environments.
  • Evaluate and review functional and system concepts.
  • Manage functional variants, applicable regulations and dependencies between vehicle systems.
  • Participate in requirements balancing, reviews, handshakes and technical decision-making.
  • Drive and enhance PDS, PCS and Functional Safety (FuSa) ways of working within the team.
  • Guide other Function Owners regarding processes, requirements, documentation and quality assurance.
  • Lead or contribute to Hazard Analysis, HARA, Functional Safety Concept and Safety Case activities.
  • Work closely with Cybersecurity teams on TARA and cybersecurity-related requirements.
  • Support quality and safety reviews, screenings and independent assessments.

Required Competence

  • Several years of experience within automotive E/E systems and/or Embedded Software development.
  • Proven experience as a Function Owner, Lead Function Owner, System Engineer, Feature Owner or similar technical ownership role.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle functions and distributed electrical/electronic systems.
  • Automotive domain knowledge and understanding of vehicle development processes.
  • Experience developing and managing system/function requirements.
  • Ability to translate feature-level requirements into detailed End User Function requirements.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle integration and verification.
  • Hands-on knowledge of ISO 26262 / Functional Safety, including HARA.
  • Knowledge of automotive Cybersecurity and TARA processes.
  • Experience with SystemWeaver and/or CarWeaver.
  • Experience working with Jira and Agile ways of working.
  • Strong analytical and complex problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to coordinate and align multiple technical stakeholders.

Highly Meritorious

  • Previous experience from a major commercial vehicle, truck or bus OEM.
  • Knowledge of Transport Solution / End User Function structures.
  • Experience with vehicle feature roadmaps and global function development.
  • Experience with KOLA, including KOLA logic.
  • Experience with PDS and PCS processes.
  • Experience leading or mentoring other Function Owners.
  • Commercial vehicle, truck or bus development experience.
  • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.

Who We’re Looking For

You are a technically strong and curious engineer who enjoys taking ownership rather than working only on isolated technical tasks. You can understand the complete vehicle function—from requirements and architecture to embedded implementation, safety, cybersecurity, integration and verification.

You are comfortable leading technical discussions, challenging requirements, coordinating stakeholders and guiding other engineers while remaining hands-on when complex problems need to be solved.
