Full description
Company Overview
CEEUS is a member-owned cooperative wholesale distributor serving the electric-utility marketplace. From operations in West Columbia, South Carolina, and Glen Allen, Virginia, we coordinate the flow of materials and equipment from manufacturers to electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, and investor-owned utilities. Our goal is not growth for its own sake. We work to become a better company by creating more value for the utilities and communities we serve.
Business Systems at CEEUS
Business Systems is broader than a traditional IT department. We increase CEEUS's capabilities and capacity by improving the coordinated system of people, process, technology, and data. The Business Data & Applications team builds and operates the enterprise application and data capabilities behind ordering, inventory, supply chain, warehouse operations, delivery, invoicing, and other critical work.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Business Data & Applications, you will design, build, deploy, and support Power BI reports, semantic models, and business automation solutions that help CEEUS use operational data more effectively.
This is hands-on business intelligence development within real operational and enterprise-system constraints. The environment includes ERP and operational data, shared semantic models, Power BI Service, Power Query, Excel, Power Automate, APIs, gateways, testing, documentation, and production support. The role is not limited to visual design. The role requires strong SQL and backend development skills to shape, transform, validate, and deliver reliable data from source systems.
What you will be responsible for
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and datasets that support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Develop clear data models, relationships, reusable DAX measures, and consistent business definitions so reporting remains accurate, understandable, and maintainable.
- Use Power Query and SQL to connect, clean, combine, transform, and validate data from ERP, Excel, Microsoft 365, and other business systems.
- Build and improve Excel-based tools when Excel is the right solution, including structured tables, PivotTables, Power Query, Power Pivot, formulas, and validation controls.
- Use Power Automate to reduce manual work through scheduled workflows, approvals, notifications, file processing, and practical integrations; monitor and troubleshoot failures.
- Work directly with the Business Transformation team and business users to understand processes, define requirements and measures, validate results, explain tradeoffs, and improve solutions through feedback.
- Support the Power BI Service lifecycle, including workspaces, access, refresh schedules, gateways, deployment, performance, usage, and production monitoring.
- Investigate data discrepancies, refresh failures, report-performance issues, automation failures, and user-reported problems; identify root causes and own resolution after deployment.
- Use testing, review, release, documentation, and knowledge-sharing practices that make reports and automations understandable and supportable by others.
- Collaborate with the Data Engineer and Application Developer for data integration efforts.
Responsible use of AI: CEEUS supports approved AI-assisted tools. The developer remains accountable for independently validating the correctness, security, maintainability, and appropriateness of all resulting work.
You are likely to thrive here if you
- Want to see and understand the actual work, data, and decisions before deciding what to build.
- Enjoy turning ambiguous reporting needs and inconsistent definitions into reliable, practical analytics.
- Can move comfortably among data modeling, report development, automation, Excel, troubleshooting, and user support.
- Care more about accuracy, clarity, performance, and maintainability than creating visually impressive reports that users cannot trust.
- Are willing to question unclear metrics, validate assumptions, and explain technical choices in practical business language.
- Want to own production behavior, not simply publish a report or flow and hand it off.
- Are comfortable working on-site and entering operational areas when needed to understand how people use data and systems.
This role may not be a fit if you
- Want to focus only on report visuals without owning data modeling, validation, performance, or support.
- Prefer complete specifications delivered through a ticket queue with little interaction with users or operations.
- Do not want to troubleshoot refreshes, data discrepancies, automation failures, and other complex issues.
- Expect to enter a large, fully mature data educated organization rather than help a growing team strengthen its practices.
- Prefer one-off spreadsheets and isolated reports over shared definitions, reusable models, and maintainable solutions.
- Prefer individual technical control over shared priorities, review, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
Working Conditions
- Standard office and warehouse environment.
- Standard working hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with 1 hour for lunch.
- Requires availability outside of standard hours as needed to support critical issues or projects (1-2 times/month).
- Requires travel as needed for industry conferences, meetings, and onsite work at our VA facility (2-3 times/year).
How we Work
At CEEUS, high performance does not excuse poor behavior. We expect Integrity at All Costs, Unwavering Humility, Insatiable Hunger, Vulnerable Team Trust, Complete and Mutual Accountability, Natural Collaboration, and 2nd Mile Service. In this role, that means doing the right thing, sharing concerns early, admitting when an assumption was wrong, owning outcomes, exchanging knowledge freely, following through, and putting collective success ahead of individual credit.
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for up to six hours at a time.
- Must possess fine motor skills and finger dexterity necessary for precise and efficient use of a keyboard, mouse, and trackpad in performing job-related tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate frequently and clearly in both verbal and written formats.
- Must have the ability to see and interpret detailed information, including small text and images, on screens, paper, or other materials, with or without corrective lenses.
- Must be able to process complex information, evaluate multiple variables, and apply logical reasoning to solve problems and make informed decisions.
