Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

University Relations is implementing Salesforce CRM as part of a multi-year advancement and data modernization initiative. To support the long-term stability, scalability, and extensibility of the Salesforce platform following implementation, University Relations requires a Salesforce Developer to provide hands-on custom development and integration expertise.

The Salesforce Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining custom Salesforce solutions, including Apex code, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Salesforce-side integration components. This role focuses on extending Salesforce capabilities beyond declarative configuration, supporting integrations, and stabilizing custom logic delivered by implementation partners.

In addition to hands-on development responsibilities, this role provides technical leadership and direct supervision of the Salesforce Administrator, coordinating declarative configuration and custom development efforts to ensure alignment with overall architecture standards and best practices. The Salesforce Developer must also be prepared to assume Salesforce Administrator responsibilities during the Administrator's scheduled or unscheduled absences (including military reserve training, extended leave, or other planned coverage periods) to ensure continuity of platform operations, user support, and business-critical processes.

The position reports to the Director of Data Management and works in close partnership with Salesforce Administrators, Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and business stakeholders. Declarative configuration, platform governance, and day-to-day administration remain the responsibility of the Salesforce Administrator; this role provides custom development and technical implementation support aligned with established architecture and governance standards.

Preferences: -Proficiency with Lightning Web Components and Salesforce UI extension patterns. -Proficiency with JSON, XML, and authentication patterns commonly used in Salesforce integrations (OAuth, Named Credentials, JWT) -Familiarity with Salesforce data modeling, objects, relationships, and schema design. -Experience with Salesforce data management tools and mass data operations. -Knowledge of the Salesforce security model, including profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, roles, and field-level security. -Experience with Salesforce DX (SFDX) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Copado, Gearset, or native tooling). -Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. -Experience providing technical guidance, coverage, and/or supervision for junior developers or administrators. -Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams. -Experience working with or developing for Salesforce managed packages used in advancement, particularly Kindsight Ascend. -Experience refactoring or stabilizing code delivered by implementation partners or consultants. -Experience working in higher education, non-profit, or advancement/fundraising environments. -Experience integrating with Azure platform. -Salesforce Platform Developer II

Physical Demands: Sedentary work with the majority of time spent using a desktop/laptop computer. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Ability to travel across campus for meetings.

License/Certifications: Salesforce Administrator and Platform Developer I certifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  

Experience: Five (5) years of professional software development experience. Four (4) years of professional software development on the Salesforce platform.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

Knowledge of Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Government Cloud and Ligthenting. Knowledge of Apex, Visualforce, LWC and SOQL/SOSL. Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevOps tools. Skill in the use of Flows, Reports/Dashboard and third-party integrations. Ability to manage core administrative functions, including user management, security settings, data integrity and systems configurations. Ability to develop custom objects, integrations and enhancements aligned with Salesforce best practices. Ability to manage high volumes of complex, time-sensitive work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and compliance. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
