Job Overview The DevOps Engineer is responsible for developing, deploying, automating and managing infrastructure platforms. Specifically, to provide integrated source control, change, build, test and release management pipelines and services that can handle the complexity, quality, reporting and compliance requirements of our software product releases and test tools.

Responsibilities Management and Automation of Operations, build, configuration, and deployment

  • The DevOps team is responsible for the availability of the cloud-based infrastructure to agreed service levels with for internal and external customers
  • Manage the cloud-based build, automated test and deployment servers across both production and the various development environments
  • Maintain scripts used for the build/test/deploy solution
  • As needed, respond to live support requests, and ensure requests for enhancement to the applications are put in place to reduce live support requests in the future
  • Respond to monitoring alerts, and implement changes to ensure alerts do not occur regularly
  • Design and implement enhancements to the automation around the solution
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery implementations and processes
  • Design, optimise and implement cost savings as cloud services are enhanced or become available
  • Manage allocation and setup of new customer specific environments
  • Coordinate changes to the infrastructure and champion upcoming changes within the change review processes
  • If downtime is required, coordinate and notify of upcoming and current downtime with regular status reports
  • Live support on an as-needed basis

Build and Test System Management:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of automated build, integration and test systems.
  • Enabling reliable and robust build systems so software / embedded software / firmware is built on check-in and nightly to ensure that changes do not inadvertently break the build.
  • Automated deployment of releases to automated test rigs to ensure that all changes, builds and releases have a high level of automated test.
  • Automated creation of entire release packages at every release point that entail release notes automatically generated from developer check-in comments, automated generation of relevant documentation, build artifacts, distributable tools and documentation for many different customer release configurations and markets.
  • Provide immediate notification of build and test results to developers and managers.
  • Provide regular visibility of the status and health of all of the branches, customer tagged releases, associated automated test status and test coverage to all stakeholders.
  • Review software/firmware design documentation and deliverables to provide best practice feedback

on design for automated test and configuration.

Security, servicing and documentation

  • Log monitoring for incidents and performance
  • Securing cloud systems with appropriate controls and checks
  • Security Incident response and coordination
  • Reporting and recording on performance, billing and security controls
  • Maintain Documentation as changes occur

Build and Test System Administration:

  • Responsible for system administration and maintenance of the development systems such as Gitlab, GitHub, Jira, all build servers and automated test systems.
  • Ensuring that build, test, compiler, containers, and other tools are up to date and meet all licensing and legal requirements.
  • Management and maintenance of the build, test and release infrastructure to ensure 24/7 availability of service for the company. Provide out of hours support as required to meet SLAs for service availability.
  • Integration of Jira, source control, and other tools to enforce development policies and processes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the areas of continuous integration, source control management and branching.

Mentorship

  • Mentor and train other team members
  • Assist where necessary with knowledge transfer to other technical Invenco employees, particularly around cloud technologies and CI/CD build pipelines
  • Lead by example with new technologies

Strategy and Design

  • Ensure the design and quality of our products are kept up to date with industry standards, particularly around security and compliance such as PCI DSS and Common Criteria
  • Research new technologies when appropriate to ensure the ongoing strategy of DevOps within Invenco is heading in the right direction
  • Lead by example with new technologies

Required Skills / Qualifications / Certifications

  • 5+ years system, administration experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or computer science
  • Experience in one or more of each of the following areas:

o Amazon Web Services, such as Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, Certificate Manager, Route53 and RDS o Monitoring: NewRelic, Alert Site, SumoLogic, Cloud Watch, DataDog, Pingdom, Splunk, Zabbix o Continuous Integration: Atlassian Bamboo, Jenkins, Travis CI, CircleCI, Hudson o Continuous Delivery: SaltStack, Ansible, Go CD, CodeShip, Elastic Beanstalk o Data: Postgresql, NoSQL, ETL, Liquibase o Languages: Node.JS, JavaScript, Java, Bash, Python, Perl o Linux: Amazon Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu o Others: Vagrant, GitHub, GitLab, Docker, Cloud Formation templates

  • Embedded C, C++, Yocto, buildroot
  • GCC toolchain usage and creation, cmake, makefiles, bash scripting, python scripting, static and dynamic linking knowledge
  • An understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Strong technical documentation/interpretation skills
  • Problem analysis skills
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in a similar role within development / operations
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • No travel restrictions
