Data Engineer

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a Systems team for an initial 6-month engagement, contributing to the development of a modern data platform supporting mine planning and broader Technical Services functions.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys building high-quality data solutions, improving existing platforms, and working with modern technologies including Snowflake, dbt Core, SQL and Python.

As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to the core development and ongoing evolution of the team's data platform. You'll work across data modelling, transformation and performance optimisation, with a strong focus on creating solutions that are scalable, reusable and maintainable.

You'll be joining a collaborative, fast-paced technical environment where good engineering practices, code quality and knowledge sharing are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the core development and enhancement of the data platform.

• Design and build scalable, reusable dbt models and macros.

• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines using dbt Core and Snowflake.

• Refactor and optimise the existing codebase to improve performance, scalability and maintainability.

• Troubleshoot data issues and identify opportunities to optimise Snowflake query performance.

• Write clean, efficient and well-documented code aligned with engineering best practices.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and collaborative problem-solving.

• Work closely with the broader Systems team to deliver reliable data solutions supporting mine planning and Technical Services.

Qualifications and Experience

• Strong hands-on proficiency with SQL, dbt Core, Snowflake and Python.

• Strong data modelling experience, particularly with Data Vault and Dimensional Modelling.

• Experience designing and maintaining production-grade data transformation pipelines.

• A solid understanding of query optimisation, data quality and scalable data architecture.

• Familiarity with Git/version control and collaborative software development workflows.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.

• A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to code reviews and technical design discussions.
