Staff Accountant – Finance Analyst

Purpose of the Role: The Staff Accountant – Finance Analyst reporting to the Controller is responsible for supporting the company’s accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position plays a key role in month-end and year-end close activities, inventory accounting, cost accounting support, account reconciliations, and financial analysis within a manufacturing, projects and service environment. The role works closely with Project Management, Purchasing, Production, Services and Supply Chain to ensure accurate inventory valuation, project accounting and financial reporting. Additionally, this role will play a large role in the implementation of the Epicor ERP transition.

Location: Onsite in Hamilton Ohio

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
  • Perform monthly bank, general ledger, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Assist with inventory accounting, project accounting including inventory analysis / reconciliations and cycle count adjustments.
  • Support standard cost maintenance and cost roll updates, including analysis of manufacturing costs, labor variances and production variances, and overhead.
  • Assist in preparing COGS calculations and inventory valuations. Maintain good accounting records in accordance with GAAP & company policy.
  • Partner with Operations teams to improve inventory accuracy and financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and monthly analysis.
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and asset tracking.
  • Prepare sales and use tax schedules and assist with other regulatory filings.
  • Support annual physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, with strong understanding of inventory accounting, project management and manufacturing processes, preferably in a project costing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
  • Experience using ERP systems, Epicor or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention detail, organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities to meet given timelines.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cost or project accounting; inventory control & cycle counting.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Experience supporting annual audits.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General ledger accounting, inventory accounting, cost accounting principles

  • ERP systems – Epicor preferred; Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

The successful Staff Accountant – Finance Analyst will:

  • Maintain accurate financial records with minimal errors.
  • Complete month-end close activities on schedule, including reconciliations.
  • Successful implementation of Epicor ERP.
  • Improve inventory accuracy, financial controls & support successful external audits.
  • Partner effectively with Operations to provide meaningful financial analysis and improve business performance.
