DESCRIPTION
A global maritime technology organization, established through the collaboration of leading aviation and maritime industry experts, combines aviation-grade digital capabilities with deep maritime operational knowledge to deliver the next generation of digital solutions for the shipping industry. The company develops innovative products on a unified, cloud-native, and composable platform designed to accelerate digital transformation across maritime operations.
We are seeking a skilled Business Analyst to play a pivotal role in shaping, clarifying, and enabling delivery across a strategic transformation portfolio. This is a value-centric role operating at the intersection of business intent, product strategy, platform capabilities, and delivery execution.
Business Analysis is not viewed as a downstream documentation function. The Business Analyst actively collaborates with Product Owners, Product Managers, Project Managers, Architects, and Engineering teams to ensure that business needs are correctly understood, coherently structured, and translated into deliverable outcomes that realise value.
BUSINESS ANALYST RESPONSIBILITIES
Business & Value Analysis
- Engage with business stakeholders, domain experts, and operational teams to understand needs, pain points, objectives, and constraints across maritime operations and digital processes.
- Analyse and articulate business problems and opportunities, ensuring they are framed in a way that supports value-driven decision-making.
- Define and document business requirements, outcomes, and success measures with clarity, precision, and traceability to the company's objectives.
- Support value identification and prioritisation by helping Product and Delivery leadership understand impact, dependencies, and trade-offs.
Product & Delivery Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Owners to refine epics, features, and user stories, ensuring clarity of intent, acceptance criteria, and readiness for delivery.
- Partner with Product Managers to ensure business analysis aligns with product strategy, roadmap direction, and desired customer or operational outcomes.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure requirements are sequenced, scoped, and structured in a way that supports predictable and integrated delivery.
- Act as a connective tissue between business, product, and delivery disciplines, ensuring shared understanding and reducing rework and ambiguity.
Requirements Definition & Structuring
- Translate complex business needs into clear, structured artefacts such as user stories, use cases, process models, functional/non-functional requirements, and data definitions.
- Ensure requirements are complete, consistent, testable, and aligned with platform standards and architectural principles.
- Support backlog readiness by ensuring requirements are sufficiently elaborated ahead of delivery without over-specification.
- Maintain traceability between business objectives, requirements, delivery items, and realised outcomes.
Process, Data & Domain Modelling
- Analyse and model business processes (current and future state), identifying inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement through digital solutions.
- Contribute to data and domain modelling efforts, ensuring shared understanding of key business entities, relationships, and rules across teams.
- Support SmartSea’s platform and composable architecture approach by helping ensure business logic and processes are consistently expressed across products and services.
Delivery Support & Validation
- Support delivery teams during implementation by clarifying requirements, answering questions, and validating understanding.
- Participate in reviews, demos, and acceptance activities to ensure delivered solutions meet intended business needs and quality expectations.
- Work with QA and stakeholders to support acceptance testing and validation of outcomes against defined requirements and success criteria.
Continuous Improvement & Ways of Working
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's analysis practices, templates, and standards within the Value Delivery / Enterprise Value Office construct.
- Identify recurring issues in requirement clarity, handovers, or decision-making and propose practical improvements.
- Support the evolution of the company's system of work by promoting clarity, shared language, and evidence-based decision-making.
Ways of Working
- Operate effectively within a product-led, hybrid Agile delivery environment, adapting analysis depth and approach based on context, risk, and delivery needs.
- Balance upfront analysis with iterative discovery, avoiding both under-specification and analysis paralysis.
- Facilitate workshops, refinement sessions, and working discussions that improve alignment, shared understanding, and decision quality.
- Promote transparency, collaboration, and accountability across business, product, and delivery teams.

- Strong experience in requirements elicitation, user story definition, acceptance criteria, and process modelling.
- Familiarity with techniques such as BPMN, use cases, process mapping, and value stream analysis.
- Strong ability to reason about business outcomes, constraints, and trade-offs, not just features.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers and architects, with sufficient technical literacy to challenge assumptions and clarify feasibility.
- Exposure to SaaS platforms, cloud-native architectures, or low-code environments is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, and Kanban practices, particularly backlog refinement and sprint collaboration.
