With over 42,000 customers worldwide, Mimecast has a long history of excellence in Data Archiving and eDiscovery and is recognised as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving Solutions.

We are pioneers in Human Risk Management, recognizing that people are both an organization's greatest asset and its most significant security vulnerability. Our platform addresses the human element of cybersecurity through advanced threat detection, awareness training, Incydr risk management, and data governance. Our Governance, Compliance & Insight products play a critical role in this mission, ensuring that communications data is archived, discoverable, and compliant, enabling organizations to manage the risk that stems from human actions.

AI-First Engineering at Mimecast

Mimecast is an AI-First engineering organization. Our teams actively leverage AI-powered development tools across all facets of engineering, from code development to testing, documentation, and operations. We're looking for leaders who don't just use AI tools but champion their adoption and establish new ways of working.

Our AI leadership extends beyond how we build to what we build. Our Mihra AI agent delivers 7x faster threat response for customers, and we're recognized as "Agents of Change" in Human Risk Management. Engineers here work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI tooling and AI-powered security products that protect organizations worldwide.

The driving force behind Collaboration Security at Mimecast

Dive into the forefront of innovation with our Managed Threat Response engineering team, where we build the platforms that detect, investigate, and remediate threats on behalf of our customers. Our products leverage the latest technologies and advances in Artificial Intelligence to stay one step ahead of cybercriminals — and we build them the same way.

Why Join Our Team?

“This is a build role. You will be standing up a new engineering squad in Bengaluru for products our customers depend on every day, in a team where AI is how the work gets done rather than a side experiment. If you are already the person your team turns to — for the technical calls and for the advice — and you want to make that your actual job, this is the step.” – Hiring Manager

What You'll Do

As a Manager, Software Engineering you will build and lead a squad covering Mailroom and Threat Portal, with contributions into our Managed Email Incident Response and Remediation products. This is a genuine build: you will hire the team, onboard it, and get it delivering reliably. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Hire, onboard, and retain a new engineering squad, working closely with Recruitment and HR in a highly competitive market.
  • Own team-level delivery — commitments, technical debt, on-call load, and stakeholder expectations — holding all of them at once without letting any one collapse.
  • Run genuinely developmental 1:1s, set clear expectations, and give honest feedback early rather than late, including the difficult kind.
  • Create the conditions for engineers to do their best technical work: enough structure that people know what is expected, enough autonomy that they own their technical decisions.
  • Make AI-first engineering a team capability rather than an individual habit — support engineers in building their own agentic development workflows, and hold the quality bar on what those tools produce.
  • Know when to coach an engineer through a technical decision and when to make the call yourself, and resolve technical disagreements within the team constructively.
  • Partner with Product, Support, and peer engineering teams, representing your team's technical position and delivery risk honestly to senior stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and delivery risk early, and monitor cloud resource usage for cost savings that do not compromise performance or reliability.

What You'll Bring

This may be your first formal management role. What matters is that you have already been doing much of the job informally, and that you want to develop engineers more than you want to ship the feature yourself.

  • An engineering background you can still use. Hands-on experience building and running backend services at scale, deep enough that you remain credible in design and code review and can ask the right questions even when you are not the one making the call.
  • Evidence that you already develop people. Time as a technical lead, mentor, or onboarding owner — a track record of engineers who got better because of you, and of feedback you gave that was uncomfortable to deliver and useful to receive.
  • Proven AI-first engineering practice, and a view on what it means for a team. You have personally built this way with agentic coding tools, and you have a clear position on what AI-mature engineering practice should look like across a squad. We work in Cursor, but we care that you have built this way, not which tool you used.
  • Critical judgement over AI output, applied as a standard. A working understanding of where these tools fail — hallucinated APIs, plausible-but-wrong logic, silent security and performance regressions — and the willingness to hold a team to a quality bar rather than celebrate raw throughput.
  • Delivery ownership across a team. Planning, execution, and predictable delivery of complex work; comfort with the trade-off between delivery speed and engineering quality, and the ability to explain the call you made to both engineers and executives.
  • Hiring and team building. Experience attracting, assessing, and onboarding engineering talent, or clear evidence you have been central to it.
  • Strong communication across distance. You explain technical concepts credibly to technical and non-technical audiences, and you work effectively with colleagues distributed across multiple time zones.
  • A real appetite for the shift from doing to developing. The instinct to solve problems directly comes from genuine competence; the defining challenge of this role is redirecting that energy into the people around you.
  • Nice to have: prior work in cybersecurity or email security; experience managing on-call rotations and incident response; and experience leading distributed or newly formed teams.

What We Bring

Join our Managed Threat Response team to accelerate your career journey, leading a team whose work has direct and visible customer impact. You will not be doing this alone: you will have the support of senior engineering leadership, a global network of peer engineering managers, and deliberate investment in your development as a leader — this is a role we expect you to grow into and beyond.

You and your team will be given first-class AI development tooling and the mandate to get genuinely good with it. We treat AI engineering capability as a skill we invest in and measure, and we judge teams on the outcomes they ship and the quality they sustain — not on lines of code written.

Mimecast offers formal and on-the-job learning opportunities and maintains a comprehensive benefits package that helps our employees and their family members sustain a healthy lifestyle. We believe in 'growth that's good', we have 'a culture that cares' and we are on a 'mission that matters'.

Our Hybrid Model: We provide you with the flexibility to live balanced, healthy lives through our hybrid working model that champions both collaborative teamwork and individual flexibility. Employees are expected to come to the office at least two days per week, because working together in person:

  • Fosters a culture of collaboration, communication, performance and learning
  • Drives innovation and creativity within and between teams
  • Introduces employees to priorities outside of their immediate realm
  • Ensures important interpersonal relationships and connections with one another and our community!
