Where the team fits in

The Data Engineering role sits within the Modernisation tribe (CuPID) and is part of the broader Customer Product & Experience group within REA Group. The CuPID Squad is responsible for designing and operating the pipelines and core customer datasets that provides customer insights from multiple systems into consistent, reliable data that are used by teams across REA.

You will join a dynamic team who owns all customer data across the business and is working to consolidate data from multiple legacy systems into a unified customer profile platform. The aim for this team is to improve data accuracy and enable personalization and machine learning capabilities for AI products at REA. This role will suit someone with strong technical rigour who thrives in cross team coordination.

What the role is all about

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and datasets; participate in data transformation requests coming through a team board; collaborate with team members on implementation approach and determining the most efficient ways to tackle work.
  • The role is approximately 70-80% data engineering with opportunities to build out software engineering capabilities as Cupid's functionality expands.
  • The team works with many unknowns, requiring comfort with ambiguity and collaborative problem-solving rather than clear, predefined solutions.
  • Works closely with the senior and mid-level data engineers within the Cupid squad; collaborates with the data analyst on requirements; engages with other software engineering squads on cross-functional needs; interacts with Salesforce team and customer support team for data remediation.
  • The role involves determining accuracy of aggregated data and managing remediation across multiple source systems and customer teams, which requires strong technical rigor and cross-team coordination.

Who we’re looking for

  • Someone with a strong knowledge of SQL, ideally with hands-on experience designing and building robust data pipelines.
  • Experience with data pipeline design and implementation.
  • Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.
  • BigQuery or equivalent data warehouse.
  • DBT or similar data transformation tool.
  • Strong data modelling skills and disciplined data quality practices.
  • A collaborative mindset- comfortable contributing ideas and shaping direction.
  • AWS or GCP cloud platform experience.
  • Experience from smaller teams were wearing multiple hats is required.
