Full description

Job Title: Data Center Project ManagerJob DescriptionThe Data Center Project Manager leads complex mechanical, electrical, and critical‑infrastructure capital projects across enterprise data centres. The role covers the full project lifecycle, from scope definition and design coordination through procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover to operations. You will ensure all projects meet performance, compliance, safety, and operational readiness requirements while supporting sustainability and certification objectives.

Responsibilities• Serve as the primary project lead for all assigned mechanical, electrical, and critical‑infrastructure CAPEX initiatives within enterprise data centres.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project scope documents, schedules, budgets, risk registers, status reports, and financial updates for stakeholders.
  • Execute end‑to‑end procurement activities, including RFP development, bid evaluation, vendor selection, and contract negotiation.
  • Coordinate closely with internal engineering teams, data centre operations, MEP consultants, and third‑party service providers to ensure alignment with established data centre standards and governance.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning activities for HVAC systems, UPS, generators, PDUs, controls, fire and life safety systems, and other mechanical and electrical components.
  • Manage project CAPEX budgets and support vendor payment generation and tracking as required.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and industry standards, including support for SLA and KPI commitments.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, status tracking, change‑management processes, and an appropriate meeting cadence throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support sustainability and certification goals such as LEED, WELL, WiredScore and other relevant frameworks through project design and execution on a per‑project basis.
  • Partner with data centre operations teams to ensure seamless handover of completed projects into steady‑state operations.
  • Provide owner‑side project management for refresh programmes of existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure at data centre sites, particularly within the NY/NJ area.
  • Work collaboratively with operations teams, construction vendors and their project managers, engineering partners, and commissioning service providers to deliver infrastructure refresh projects in live data centre environments.

Essential Skills• 5–10+ years of experience managing MEP or mission‑critical construction projects within data centres or a similar critical environment.

  • Strong knowledge of critical facility systems including HVAC, UPS, generators, PDUs, controls, and commissioning processes.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams, manage vendors, and oversee large‑scale project budgets.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage stakeholder expectations and produce accurate, clear documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in dynamic, fast‑paced environments while maintaining safety, quality, and governance standards.
  • Experience delivering end‑to‑end mechanical, electrical, and technology‑infrastructure construction projects, including scope definition, design coordination, vendor oversight, financial management, commissioning support, and handover to operations.
  • Ability to ensure projects consistently meet performance, compliance, safety, and operational readiness requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.

  • Experience working within financial services environments, particularly in live financial data centres undergoing equipment refresh, is preferred.
  • Experience with sustainability and building or infrastructure certification programmes such as LEED, WELL, WiredScore or similar frameworks.
  • Clear understanding that this is a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) focused role rather than a telecoms or application/software development position.

Why Work Here? This role offers the chance to make a direct impact on the reliability, resiliency, and modernisation of a global data centre environment. You will gain exposure to senior engineering leadership, high‑impact infrastructure programmes, and cross‑functional teams delivering complex, mission‑critical projects. The environment encourages collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning across a broad portfolio of data centre initiatives.

Work EnvironmentYou will work predominantly on site in data centres in New Jersey, with an expectation of being present four days per week. The environment is highly technical and operationally critical, focused on mechanical and electrical infrastructure such as HVAC, UPS, generators, PDUs, controls, and fire and life safety systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, construction vendors, and commissioning service providers in live data centre facilities where safety, compliance, and governance are paramount.
