Why This Role Matters
Pumps and rotating equipment are critical assets for industrial and municipal processes. When they fail, production stops, and costs stack up fast. As an Applications Engineer with Geiger, you'll be the technical resource customers and our team turn to when something's not working. You'll troubleshoot failures, evaluate performance, and find the fix that gets critical systems back online. You'll also build a working knowledge of pump selection and sizing, supporting new and aftermarket opportunities alongside our sales team.
This isn't engineering from behind a screen, disconnected from outcomes. You'll work with equipment you can put your hands on, and directly communicate with customers to find the right solution for them.
If you like understanding why equipment fails, not just that it fails, and you want your engineering judgment to directly shape customer outcomes, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
Solve real problems for real customers
- Provide technical support for existing installations: troubleshooting, performance evaluations, and repair or upgrade recommendations that keep customers' operations running.
- Get hands-on with equipment alongside our service technicians in our Baltimore shop with travel to our Aston, PA shop as needed.
- Work alongside our service and sales teams to diagnose equipment issues, identify solutions, and build corrective action plans for pumps and rotating equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, field inspections, and performance verification when your expertise is needed on-site alongside our field service technicians and sales engineers.
Build your foundation in pump applications
- Learn the fundamentals of pump selection, sizing, and application to support new projects and replacement opportunities.
- Assist in reviewing specifications, drawings, and operating conditions as part of the broader technical team.
- Support Outside Sales Engineers and inside sales teams with proposals, quotations, and technical submittals as needed.
Grow your expertise
- Participate in manufacturer and industry training to continuously sharpen your technical knowledge on pumps and rotating equipment.
- Build a reputation as a go-to technical resource — for customers and for your own team.
Who We're Looking For
• 1–5 years of experience with rotating equipment, industrial/process equipment, rotating equipment service, or a similar technical support role. Plant engineer, maintenance engineer, rotating equipment applications, or reliability-focused technical roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or chemical engineering (or closely related field) preferred; Associate degree with equivalent hands-on industry experience also considered.
- Strong communicator who can move fluidly between technical detail with engineers and mechanical basics with technicians.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, engineering drawings, pump curves, and technical documentation.
- A mechanical aptitude and genuine curiosity about why equipment behaves the way it does. Ability to consider details and the big picture is a must.
- Self-directed and organized, with the adaptability to jump between office analysis, shop investigation, and customer-site problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel periodically to regional customer sites.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Real ownership: your technical judgment directly shapes how quickly customers get back up and running.
- Variety: troubleshooting, shop investigation, field support, and customer conversations, plus growing exposure to new equipment application.
- Exposure to industry-leading pump and rotating equipment manufacturers, and the training that comes with representing them.
- A collaborative, team-oriented culture built on continuous improvement — not siloed engineering.
- Competitive compensation with bonus opportunity, comprehensive health benefits, 401(k) with company match, generous PTO and paid volunteer days, and educational reimbursement.
- This position has a salary range of $80-$88K based on experience, with participation in performance bonus plan expected.
