Senior Java Developer

Job Purpose

The Senior Java Developer is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining CR2’s BankWorld product. This role involves designing and implementing high-quality software solutions, integrating AI/LLM capabilities where appropriate, contributing to new business requirements, and maintaining existing functionality within a collaborative Scrum team environment.

Our hybrid working model requires employees to be on-site three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implementation: Design and implement new features, ensuring alignment with business requirements, technical specifications, security practices, and project timelines.

• Agile development and team collaboration: Actively participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and work closely with team members to achieve project goals and deliverables.

• Code quality and review: Ensure adherence to software design best practices, participate in design and code reviews, and proactively suggest improvements to processes and practices.

• Product security: Follow sound security engineering practices to protect the integrity and security of the product.

• Support and troubleshooting: Assist in maintaining and supporting new and existing features by working with the support team to diagnose and resolve issues promptly.

• Innovation and continuous learning: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, and integrate new solutions to enhance user experience and product functionality.

• Out-of-hours support: Provide occasional out-of-hours support for critical product issues when required.

• Additional tasks: Perform any other related tasks assigned by the line manager.

• Generative AI for development: Leverage AI-assisted coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Junie, Claude AI and any other tools identified by our architecture team to accelerate development while maintaining code quality standards; document and review AI-generated solutions for security and correctness.

• AI-powered testing and automation: Explore and implement AI-driven testing frameworks and agents for automated QA, regression testing, and edge-case discovery in payment processing pipelines.

Critical Competencies

• Technical expertise: Proficient in Java programming with strong object-oriented design and programming skills.

• Agile methodologies: Experienced in Agile software development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or similar frameworks.

• Version control: Proficient in Git for source code management.

• Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present technical ideas clearly and precisely.

• Attention to detail: Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and a passion for continuous learning.

Qualifications & Experience

• Educational background: Honours degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Java expertise: 5+ years of proven experience in Java programming.

• Desirable skills: Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring Framework, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, JPA, Spring Data, and Kafka; microservices architectures; RESTful APIs; relational databases, including SQL for Oracle; cross-platform development; multi-threading; and familiarity with the banking or financial services sector.

• Feature delivery: Timely and accurate delivery of new features and enhancements in line with Scrum goals, project timelines, and business requirements, including story points delivered within the sprint.

• Code quality: High-quality, reliable code with minimal defects, adherence to software unit testing best practices, appropriate code coverage, and strong product security.

• Team contribution: Active participation and collaboration within the Scrum team, contributing to team goals and project milestones.

• Customer satisfaction: Positive feedback from internal and external stakeholders regarding the functionality, stability, and security of the product, with a target of zero implementation bugs in customer-reported issues.

• Continuous improvement: Demonstrated commitment to staying updated with industry trends and incorporating new knowledge into daily work, including completion of annual training hours.
